The Final Countdown

And so yesterday began the 'final countdown' for Leeds United and the takeover. Looking through various sources on the internet the timescale of July 1st to July 3rd has been much circulated across many webpages as to the completion date of the takeover bid; now believed to be from a Middle Eastern consortium.

With Leeds fans hanging onto every word printed by any person working in media and by those 'in the know' excitement, worry and anticipation is taking over. I can't control my urges to check every ten minutes all the websites that have said something about the takeover to see if anything else is new, to see if anything is happening. We now only have today and tomorrow left of this timescale that has been widely speculated, but I'm not sure that it will come to pass. I believe that we will not know until next week at the earliest whether it has been completed- let's hope I'm wrong.

I am optimistic though that whatever consortium takes over will back us financially- they have to! There have been many pessimistic fans; something that I think has been built into some due to the rough ride we have had over the last seven to ten years supporting Leeds. Talk of that this whole takeover and investment talk is just a cover from Ken Bates, a 'smoke screen' so that the club doesn't have to buy players. Others have been saying that even though there is 'probably' a takeover, Bates has or is selling it to someone who can't back us and is worse than him! I don't think it's wrong that some fans feel this way, just sad that it's got to this way of thinking, but I do believe that we are being taken over and that it will be someone who can back us; Ken has been extremely quiet, something we know he finds difficult to be, but I think he's had enough himself. I think he's realised he can't take us any further and to be honest he's an old man; he needs to enjoy the rest of his years with his family.

So, just a very quick thanks to Uncle Ken for stabilising the club but it's time to move on to pastures new.

Day two down, one more to go?
