General pre-season ramblings, the hokey cokey & Leeds United
Article by Dom Pollard

Takeover? What takeover? A somewhat taboo subject around Leeds at the moment simply because people dare not dream of a future without Ken Bates, talk of this supposed investment/takeover has thankfully died down a touch now pre-season has started with the fans now able to talk about football after what seemed like an eternity since the final game at Elland Road last season.

Even though we have seen the return of actual football, a lot of focus rightly still remains on the piecing together of our title winning team. Despite our squad looking healthier than last season at present (let's pretend we have brought in an acceptable replacement for Snodgrass for now), it still seems as if Neil Warnock is having to play the Ken Bates sponsored game of financial hokey cokey in that he is putting one in, taking one out, before shaking it all about and any profits seemingly vanishing in to thin air. Personally I feel he has done a very good job thus far however I have realised from Twitter that, to my surprise, there are is a worrying amount of people out there who want Warnock out. I have supported Neil Warnock from the minute he walked through the door at Elland Road and that has still not changed, he has brought in the right players for the right deals and on the right contracts. Let's just see who these "icing on the cake" players are and get behind the lads!

Anyway on to more important things, as mentioned above pre-season has started! A few have criticised the fact that, at time of writing, all our pre-season games have been against non league or lower league opposition however I feel that is definitely the right thing to do. Build up your fitness and re-capture your touch by playing progressively better opposition, Farsley through to Preston within a 3 week period which saw a hugely popular trip to Cornwall and a Scandinavian stopover in Norway along the way. Not sure what the minority's issues with that are but I digress.

Looking at this week and things have gone quiet on the transfer front aside from the inevitable link with Peltier, Boyd & Beckford. If we did manage to get these three players in I feel that the squad would be nigh on complete but as proven with Leeds wanting and getting are two hugely separate things!

As I've stated in previous articles I am confident this is our year and we will once again "allow" the Manchester clubs, the Liverpool's & the Chelsea's of this world to compete on the hallowed turf at Elland Road.

Oh and Happy Yorkshire day everyone!
