Two Leeds United goals Liverpool fans would rather forget

After their dramatic penalty shootout victory against Norwich on Tuesday night Leeds United will face eight time winners and last seasons beaten finalists Liverpool at Anfield in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup. It’s been a while since the two teams have competed on an even keel in the League. I doubt many Free Super Tips would be tipping Leeds for the win this time round. But it was a close run thing last time the teams met.

In fact the teams last met in the same competition back in 2009 when Liverpool narrowly won one nil at Elland Road. That day a disallowed goal from Jermaine Beckford and a clinical finish from David Ngog saw Liverpool progress to the fourth round. The two teams have a great history against each other though and have competed in some thrilling games. Here are two great Leeds United goals that Liverpool fans would probably rather forget;

Tony Yeboah, 21st Ausust 1995
Leeds United 1, Liverpool 0

Tony Yeboah had scored thirteen goals in his first season at Leeds but he started the 1995/1996 season on fire. He scored two goals in the first game of the season against West Ham, the second of those strikes nearly breaking the roof of the net. But it was the game against Liverpool that launched him into the spotlight. From thirty yards out, first time volley, boom. I'm not sure David James and Dominic Matteo even saw it until it had flown over them into the back of the net.

Mark Viduka, 4th November 2000
Leeds United 4, Liverpool 3

Leeds found themseleves two nil down after 18 minutes against Liverpool but Mark Viduka struck back leveling the scores with goals before and after the break only for Liverpool to take the lead again on the hour. It was then that Mark Viduka latched onto a pass from Dacourt, twisted and turned past two defenders before slotting the ball into the net for his hat-trick. He went on to complete the victory with his fourth a minute later but for me the pick of his goals that day was the hat-tick goal.
