Possible Leeds Transfer Targets Going into Next Season

Leeds have played well this season, with Marcelo Bielsa leading a great team that have played with a modern style and fantastic energy. They’ve seen results for their efforts too, but with promotion slipping through their fingers this season, they need an effective transfer strategy to get help from high-quality players that can take the squad to the next level next season. These are some of the potential options Leeds could explore over the summer to make up the squad next season.
James Milner
A fan favourite is the speculation of a return of James Milner, a former Leeds midfielder. Milner’s future at Liverpool has been uncertain, but his performance in recent weeks has caught attention and there are claims that Liverpool want to offer him a new deal. While Milner’s current deal with the team is reportedly in place until June 2020, fans are hopeful of a return to the Whites which would amp up the current squad a great deal.
Ezri Konsa
Brentford’s Ezri Konsa is a potential pick for central defence, with a high standard required to cope with the demands of top division and world class attackers. Konsa is in a prime position to progress to a higher level, having proven himself numerous times before for Brentford at such a young age already. His composure on the pitch and athletic capabilities have made him a desirable option for Leeds. And as a homegrown talent, it’s not unreasonable to expect him to fetch a high transfer fee once he becomes even better known.
Joan Jordan
Central Midfield could be an area that Leeds want to pay careful attention to if they get promoted, for quality more than anything else. Bielsa’s intensive style demands aggressive play and an upgrade might need to be on the cards to compete with the big boys. Leeds has a number of options to pick from, with the likes of Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos an ambitious choice or Phillip Billing who’s currently at Huddersfield. But a more likely option is Joan Jordan who is with Eibar and poses an affordable option from the Spanish club.
Neal Maupay
In terms of strikers, Leeds have a few options to consider, including Cucho Hernandez – a 19-year-old player who is currently on loan at Huesca from Watford. But Brentford’s Neal Maupay is an ideal pick for Bielsa’s versatile style of play and is one of the best attackers in the league. As a player who has enjoyed a brilliant season and displayed excellent performances, Maupay could be just what Bielsa is looking for next season.
Oussama Idrissi
Bielsa has utilised Hernandez this season but there’s a clear gap in the squad for a winger and 23-year-old Oussama Idrissi is quick enough for the job. Idrissi has been both creative and a great scorer this season, and while he’s shown a preference for the left flank, there’s no denying that Bielsa would find his talents useful in any strategy he could think up.
