Re: Album Club Review - ????

Sex Pistols Such an important record for so many reasons. Still sounds as fresh today as it did back then. Imagine how much incredible, subsequent music we'd have missed out on if the Pistols hadn't released this. 5 stars. Nailed on. Van Halen A very decent album for the genre but, unfortunately, ju...

Re: Album Club Review - Wishbone Ash 'Argus'/Delines 'The Imperial' REVIEWS PLEASE

Have tried with Argus but it's a toughie. Just not my sort of thing. Really good musicianship, to be fair but just leaves me a bit cold. Reminds me of the bands I used to see on OGWT in the 70s that I never really understood. I'll give it another go at some point, as I get frustrated sometimes that ...

Didn't realise it was Willy Vlautin. Looking forward to it even more now. Big Richmond Fontaine fan.
I'm a bit obsessed with anything Vlautin, Fontaine or Delines. Seen RF about a dozen times and they're always wonderful. Met Willy quite a few times. Lovely fella.

Re: Album Club Review - Wishbone Ash 'Argus'/Delines 'The Imperial'REVIEWS PLEASE

The Delines album is also my album of the year so far. Willy Vlautin is my favourite current songwriter and can do very little wrong in my world. This builds on the success of their excellent debut 'Colfax' and adds more piano, keyboards and trumpet to create a sumptuous record. Amy Boon's voice is ...

Re: Playlist over the last week......

+1 on Gift, I really like it. And as Durly has already said, it was Andrew's way of stopping Hussey and Adams using the name. Spiteful bugger that he was/is! Eldritch throws the odd Gift track into the live Sisters set these days, sounds good with the current band. Yeah, I've seen the Sisters a cou...

Always good to enjoy an album on initial listens even though it was recorded decades ago. Eventide sounds so fresh & gives me that feelgood feeling.

Re: Playlist over the last week......

I've been hammering the debut album by Crows this past couple of weeks. Cracking and, along with The Delines, is competing for my 'favourite album of the year so far" tag.

Re: Playlist over the last week......

Been revisiting Placebo. Not managed to get going on the Hold Steady yet. Had a quick dip, but it sounds like something I need to be in the mood for (as with most music). Otherwise been listening to: Flux - Uncarved Block Pixies - Surfer Rosa John Martyn - One World The Cure - 17 Seconds Virgin Pru...

Re: QSI In Talks With Radz

Hi Durly From the YEP article: Radrizzani reduced his 100 per cent stake in Leeds exactly a year ago when 49ers Enterprises, the investment branch of the San Francisco 49ers, bought £11m-worth of shares and provided a chunk of the funding for the Championship term just gone. The value of those shar...

Re: QSI In Talks With Radz

I'm wondering about the 25% owned by the 49ers. Did Radz convince them that they would be able to have a quick turn around on their £+11 M investment last season? Allowing us to go for MB and the big financial risk it involved. The 49ers guys were at the Derby game and I can only imagine the conver...

Re: QSI In Talks With Radz

As a footnote to my previous post, I wonder what agreements we came to with the 49ers when they bought their stake. I know it's only 10% but perhaps they were offered assurances re more significant investment further down the line and that could be a sticking point........?

Re: QSI In Talks With Radz

I like Radz. He seems a decent guy and I'm grateful he's come in and rid us of the awful triangle of hell that was Bates/GFH/Cellino. That said, some of his PR has been shocking and if we have the opportunity of significant investment then he has to swallow it and sell up. I look at that final today...

Re: Album Club Review - Faith Brothers 'Eventide'/Big Country 'Steeltown'

Two albums from the 80s but exploring themes that are still relevant today, reflecting on the news coming out about British Steel today. :(
The title track from the Big Country album and 'Tradesman's Entrance' from 'Eventide' particularly strike a chord.
