We've had this argument many times on here - but I really don't get The Clash. I was bullied into getting the London Calling album by a former poster, and tbh it just leaves me cold.

Elton - I had the privilege of seeing him live before he became famous, and he was absolutely excellent. Always meant to get his debut album, but never did. The only album I have of his was Madman, which always stands the test of time. The TV documentary of him, where he came across as a whining diva, put me off him for life.

Velvets - Did some decent stuff without being stand out. I have the Banana album, but it only plays when on shuffle. I agree with Muppet that Reed's solo stuff is much more enjoyable.

I can understand where you are coming from Gandi as The Clash came late to me after plenty of persistent listens. I still prefer their live stuff & their triple album Sandinista to London Calling

Buy the Elton John self-titled album as it is a gem, you won't regret the purchase

Only £6 new from Amazon, cheaper second-hand of course

Meant to say though, that I prefer Transformer.....a classic album !!
Another Lou Reed day

Playing Transformer now :-D

'Vicious
You hit me with a flower
You do it every hour
Oh, baby, you're so vicious
Vicious
You want me to hit you with a stick
But all I've got is a guitar pick
Huh, baby, you're so vicious' 8-)

Lou Reed playlist over the Bank Holiday weekend

I still don't know what is my favourite Reed album :duno:

One of these four :

1972 - Transformer
1973 - Berlin
1989 - New York
1990 - Songs For Drella (with John Cale)

others on my playlist

Rock 'n' Roll Animal
Lou Reed
Live in New York 1972 (bootleg)
Live in Amsterdam 1992 (bootleg)

Chart stats

Two top 10 albums for Reed as a solo artist, unbelievably Transformer only reached No.13. Lou's highest chart albums were a 90's release 'Magic & Loss' at No.6 & his 1973 album 'Berlin'. New York was his only other top 20 album in the UK.
Reed's Highest placed single was 'Walk On The Wild Side' in 1972 reaching No.10 in the UK until the release of the Children In Need charity song 'Perfect Day' recorded with many major artists in 1997 giving Lou his only No.1 thirty five years after his solo career began

transformer worked better as a frisbee and lost a chunk when the shotgun pellets hit it

Songs for Drella fitted in the clay pidgeon machine better and went a greater distance... However, when the shotgun pellets hit it, it was oblitterated...

So on pure destructive power..... Drella gets my vote....

as for the content all utter drivel...

I do try and make a point when I go to a car boot to pick up an album/CD by someone I've never heard before. Some are  , but to be honest probably more are

Last weeks purchase for the princely sum of 20p was Boards of Canada - Trans Canada Highway EP - definitely a  (apologies to anyone who thinks this is great) :moggy:

Ryley Walker ordered, may have to do his back catalogue too. Going to be tough to shift from album of the year to be honest after hearing it for the first time today. I'm hooked

I really liked his Maraqopa album, the next one not so much at first but did grow on me, this one is getting better with each listen, not heard of his earlier stuff though.

I will give R W a listen when we get back, the internet here isn't good enough to listen to youtube clips.

Another newbie I have played a couple of times now and enjoying is, Jess Williamson - Cosmic Wink, think you may enjoy it too.
