I started supporting Leeds after we won the FA Cup in 1972. It was a choice between Arsenal and Leeds but I rather liked the name Leeds Utd. I told my brother that whoever won the cup I would support but really hoped it would be Leeds. I was only 10 at the time

The players Leeds had in 1972 I thought were rather dishy :P

No, I have never supported any other club but Leeds - once Leeds always Leeds.

FA Cup Final 1973, Sunderland v. Leeds. Was only 6-7 years old, but vividly remember these guys in all white doing everything they could to win the day. Game highlights were on ABC's Wide World of Sports sports program, usually on Saturday afternoons, probably on tape delay from the week before or some such. I had no clue who they were, but was instantly attracted to them. Pretty sure the only reason they showed the highlights on US tv was because of the massive upset. If Leeds had won, I might've never found out about them. As a yank, I remember spending many hours in the local library pouring through week and month old newspapers from England trying to follow the club thereafter. Did the newspaper-thing for years and years, until the internets came, and now, here I am.

in 88/89. was not into football at all and my uncle was a armchair sunderland fan. sunderland was playing leeds and to get at my uncle i was cheering on leeds. leeds won 1-0 with sterland the scorer and i thought he was the best striker in the world(i know he was a right back now). from there my love of the club started and all other clubs can kiss my ass, found out that my dad was a revie leeds fan and put the windows out of the local in 73. my other uncle was a leeds fan(revie era) and bought my leeds socks as a new born which i found out 4 years ago. most people say i follow leeds because of my dad and uncle or are a glory supporter due to o'leary. but over all i could have followed any team that player sunderland that day.
my other team was the vikings and broncos(nfl)

I started going to games in the late 80's, my dad was a Leeds fan who had followed them in the Glory Years and he took us when Wilko started to build our momentum. Elland Road was an eye opener in those days and you often got scuffles on the terraces, I still remember the movement of the Kop as it poured forward when we scored.

Once you're a fan theres no going back. When I was younger I knew little about Leeds as we had slipped into obscurity and most people at school supported Liverpool, Man U or Wednesday in those days.

Leeds was the first club I supported, but I just love football as a whole.

In the early 70s, I nominally followed Leeds -- based in part on my love for The Who's Live at Leeds album. Then, in December 1973 (74?), I was on a study program in London and became friendly with a young barkeep in my hotel. His family were Chelsea fans and he offered me an extra ticket to their match against Leeds. I think his plan was to convert me to the Blues, but instead it reinforced my feelings for Leeds a thousand-fold. The Leeds support was tremendous, Leeds won, Mick Jones scored, and I was hooked. (Once you go White, you never take flight.)

I got to one more match before I left the UK -- a cup win at Posh. Then, I did my best to follow the club from the US. As Dan describes, it was very hard to keep tabs. I'd go to the library each Monday and sift through The Times just to find a single score line. Then, as the club went into the second division, I began to lose touch -- until two technological developments -- the internet and the Fox Soccer Channel -- changed everything.

My most active involvement in following Leeds began at the time of the -15 point penalty. That was so patently unfair and unbelievable that it drew my support on a full-time basis. First I was tracking every game on the BBC site -- until I discovered waccoe and LUTV. Then, I stumbled across an internet apostle named Twiggster (who some of you may have heard of :) ), who graciously introduced me to live streams, VLR, GGL, and the MOT Forum. Last year, I made my first pilgrimage to ER and have vowed to get back AT LEAST every second year. Hopefully, at some time in the not-too-distant future, I'll have the honour of attending an MOT Forum meet up before/after a match.
Helplessly hoping

My brother and myself were raised as Leeds supporters by our father. Never wavered from that. I used to go to football training in full replica kit aged 6-7 and was known as "Little Leeds" by the coaches.

Given the reserve match going on tonight it's worth mentioning that my first Leeds match was away at Grimsby in Division Two in 1982.

Some great stories, especially from the Americans - thats dedication. I started suppporting Leeds as a six year old watching the 1972 FA Cup Final. The build up on TV started on Sat morning in those days, remember seeing Revie and the boys at the team hotel and thinking they represented Yorkshire, so they were my team. When Allan Clarke scored that amazing goal I was hooked for life.

Got to games regular from being 12 years old, paperounds and dinner money paid for boys pen ticket and a Day Rover pass on West Yorkshire Public Transport £1. Quite a few Leeds fans in Huddersfield at that time, and they tended to be the harder kids, so we never got on the wrong end of problems.

Vividly remember that last last time we beat Scum at Old Trafford. "Who put the ball in Man U's net? Brian Brian Flynn" I was on one of three double deckers from the ground that "accidentally" dropped us at Picadilly instead of Victoria. 200 Leeds fans stranded wrong part of Manchester, that was a fun trip back across the city centre!!

Never supported anyone else except England, and then only with about a fifth of the intensity.

Yeah, when we got relegated in '82, I had no clue what the fupp happened for awhile. Took me a little bit to actually figure out what relegation was, much less accept that it had happened to the mighty Whites. Those were really hard years to keep track of, trying to glean a story or even match re-cap. I had bounced around various Leeds websites during the internet age, but finally found a home here at MOT.

First ever game i attended as a very young snapper was the one which attracted the highest ever crowd at ER (baptism of fire or what!) Sunderland FA Cup replay 67. we drew 1-1 don't remember much about the game, but remember the wall falling down on the Lowfields.
As a kid in the late sixties early seventies (and being born and bred in South Leeds) there was only one choice.
My first game on my own (without my dad) was Spurs in January 71 lost 1-2.
My first away on my own was Sheff Utd 75 won 2-0 (was in the Shoreham end as well, Leeds scarf round the wrist)
Used to love match days, remember as a 15 year old going in the Scarborough Taps waiting for the trains to arrive, then giving the away fans their compulsory 'escort' down to ER.
Away days were special when the train pulled in to the station of our destination, that tingling in the stomach, that heady feeling of invincibility, when we gave the first rendition of 'hello hello Geldered Agrro'.
Started my own football career in the late seventies so used to miss a fair chunk of games, but always got there when i could.
Took the lad to his first game in 94 it was the FA cup replay with Oxford lost 2-3 AET
Then took him all over the country supporting our beloved club.
its Leeds, nothing or no one else short and simple.
Just one wish before i croak it, please let me be at Wembley to see Leeds win (play off final will do).

Asolutely. I well remember trying to keep up with the team's fortunes living in Germany from '83 to '86. Even living down South in the late '80s and early '90s teletext was our only way of following the match. I threw a sickie from my shift at Safeway to "watch" the Bournemouth match. I drove Mum mental flicking from ITV to BBC and back again every few seconds...

1961- but had to go and watch the codheads sometime as working till 1-00 on a saturday didn,t give you chance to get to Ellend road on the old A64 and Hull was only an hour away- and most of the Hull team would often be hiding in village pubs up near Filey on friday nights so we understood why a certain centre forward fell over a lot- saw Jordan and McQueen at the ground a lot later on

Who are this "Leeds" you speak of? :duno: They are not in the Premier League...must be crap? :duno:

My family were in the RAF and we were home on leave, at my Dad's parents in Leeds. My grandad (I think it was him, or his brother), took me to my first game...think it was 1965, in the old 2nd division. A Leeds player called Revie had just become manager, a couple of years before and was rebuilding the team.
I really can't remember which team we played against. I think it was Bolton.

I was told to look out for Storrie and Collins and Charlton. "And keep an eye on that short arsed young player with the ginger hair - he is going to be big".

We stood on the Spion Kop, which was then just an open slag heap with paving slabs and crush barriers on it. I stood on a milk crate, so I could see (I was about 9 or 10 and a tich!)....
I dunno WHO we were playing, it was so long ago and so many new experiences that day. The smell of cigarettes and boiled burgers is a vivid memory, as we went into the ground...as was the amount of swearing amongst our fellow supporters! I think I learned a whole new vocabulary that day - and was told to "NEVER repeat those words outside the ground".

There was a bunker at the far end of the pitch, that I learned was called the "Scratchin Shed" - where a lot of Leeds fans were singing and chanting songs about our players and you could hear them swearing at the opposing fans, who were on what was then a grass bank on the NE corner...a small fence and a single policeman separating their fans from us on the Kop. Some of our fellow fans on the Kop were giving the away fans grief as well - and I was allowed to wave 2 fingers at them and say "eff you"!

I remember us scoring a goal at the far end and the feeling of euphoria amongst our fans was an overwhelming new experience for me, having a military based childhood and that humdrum way of life ....it felt so good that I wanted more!

In the 2nd ½ we scored again - right under my nose in front of the Kop! I was lifted up and thrown in the air by grandad and his mates (they caught me again, I'm glad to say!).... I'd never seen blokes hugging before - or even seen grown ups go daft like that!
Again this euphoria was evident - probably the most powerful experience I'd had in my sheltered and disciplined life up to then.

THAT is why I became a Leeds fan...born in Leeds, but never having lived there except as a baby so I had no affiliation to anything Leeds....until that first experience - passion and pride. I wanted more, more and MORE of that - but it wasn't to be, as the RAF took us all over the place and I never got to go to ER with my grandad again.
Never looked back..only EVER been one team for me.

Thankfully, we moved back to Leeds in 1967 and I was fortunate to experience the Glory Years...but that is another story.

Been a Leeds fan as long as i can remember
Dont know why, probs coz my dad is a massive fan too.
At one point had half my class at school as Leeds fans until we stopped doing well (bloody glory hunters)
Have been getting stick for years for my allegiance, especially when we got beaten by Hereford (me being from around those parts)
I have never supported any other club but i do have an admiration for Arsenals style of play

I started supporting Leeds when I was 9, and living in Saudi Arabia. There would be a football highlights show from the Premier League every weekend. And I watched highlights of Leeds playing Liverpool, didnt know what the history of the teams were, who the teams were until after the game, didnt know any of the players. Loved the way the 'team in white' played and I decided to support Leeds United from that day on. It's the first and only football team I've supported ever since.

Years later, I did some digging around and found that the game I'm talking about was played on 29th August, 1992 at ER. Leeds would have been defending champions then (and I didnt even know it when I watched the game). Found out that Whelan and Molby scored for the Scousers....still dont know who scored for us. Any help here?

It was hard to follow the team while in Saudi Arabia. Would wait to watch highlights ever weekend, but that hardly gave me any information on the players. That changed when I moved to India in 2000 and had access to the internet, and weekly access to matches. Some of the names I remember from when I first started supporting Leeds: Wallace, Chapman, Cantona ( ), Lukic

Made my first (and only....so far) trip to ER in 2002 and watched us play Man City in the season opener at home, which we won 3-0. Will never forget that game. The thing I will cherish the most about that trip is getting to watch the Chief put in an awesome performance for us. The players I remember the most from that game: the Chief, Robbie Keane, Viduka, Bowyer
