Don't know how well known he was across the pond, but iconic blues harmonica player James Cotton passed away yesterday. James worked alongside Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, BB King, and many other blues luminaries. He won a Grammy for his album "Deep in the Blues," several WC Handy awards, and was a member of the Blues Hall of Fame.
Saw him many, many times from very close up; his performances were positively incandescent. His band with Matt "Guitar" Murphy (of Blues Brothers fame) and Charles Calmese on bass was as hot as it gets and was a very big part of my formative years. Very sad day for me today.
