The players haven't been able to concentrate since they found out that Monk's parents can't spell Gary,
Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

Re: How the heck did this happen ?
If you look at our back 4 Green, Ayling, Pontus, Bartley and Taylor / Berardi - they would get in just about any of those top 6 teams or certainly be pushing strongly every week for a regular slot. Same upfront with Woody, get in any team, may even put Hernandez in that bracket, if he played in a better side where he was asked to do less of the chasing around he is with us I think he could be a stand out player at this level. Then look at our MF - can't think of any that would be regulars, we have some promise but from players that should have been used more sparingly rather than relied on. Of our senior CMs at the start of the season, we released 2, Murphy / Dave and Bridcutt (who we got back in from loan) hasn't really been able to perform at the levels I guess we though he would. I just think we were found wanting for quality in this area, our MF does it on occasion but not with the regularity of the other top 6 teams and subsequently we were left struggling to retain possession and hence to provide the time and space for our quality players to do the damage. If it wasn't for such a stand out defence we could have had a much worse season that the one we have had. Still think given the group we have in MF (even if there are 78 of them ) we've overperformed this year, key is can we keep that backbone together and add in the missing pieces.
Re: How the heck did this happen ?
Agree and I think part of the problem is the fact we have got 78 Midfielders and Gazzza (his mum said that was the right spelling) doesn't know what is our best combination plus with injuries we never seem to have the same pairings in MF, like with the defence if we stuck with the best 4/5 we'd have done better especially in the last few games. Monk also has a tendency to sub the MF about in an effort to change the game, again doesn't give you that settled pairings.NorfolkWhite wrote:If you look at our back 4 Green, Ayling, Pontus, Bartley and Taylor / Berardi - they would get in just about any of those top 6 teams or certainly be pushing strongly every week for a regular slot. Re: How the heck did this happen ?
I think our issue has been having to use young players so often, the rotation has hurt us.
But it is true we have no stand out midfielders, still unsure why we let Murphy and Toumy go when we had to lean so heavily on Philips and Viera, they didnt break into the first team, we just had no depth.

Every game I predict a 3 - 1 Leeds win, I am traditional like that.

Re: How the heck did this happen ?
Part of the trouble with our midfield has been that Phillips and Vieira have been so inconsistent. Vieira has been brilliant in some games and atrocious in others but we have to remember he is young and still developing. I would rather have him than Lewis Cook though and I think he will become more consistent next year. Not really sure why O'Kane fell out of favour, looked tidy rather than spectacular but at this level it is probably more important to have players that perform steadily every match than players playing well one week then awful the following week. Bridcutt has looked like he never fully recovered from his injury(s) and hopefully will have an injury free pre-season so he can get back to being the player he was for us on loan (or maybe he has just been struck with the great on loan/sh*t when we buy curse at Leeds). We do though need someone in there with the ability to score goals and engine to be winning a tackle on the edge of our box and then 10 seconds later be popping up in the opposition penalty area.

I think Lewis Cook is part of the jigsaw we've missed this season. Would have been the box-to box player we required especially with a holding midfielder protecting him !weasel wrote:Part of the trouble with our midfield has been that Phillips and Vieira have been so inconsistent. Re: How the heck did this happen ?
Possibly as he would have hopefully improved after having had a season's experience. I think Vieira will become a better player as Cook had no shot and poor passing ability in my opinion.
According to Cook though he is improving his spatial awareness at Bournemouth. That must be of huge relief to his fellow substitutes as he is unlikely to sit on them on the bench,

Yep - Cook would have made a big difference this year, another year older and in a more positive and stable environment with better coaching staff, could have been a big player this year1964white wrote:I think Lewis Cook is part of the jigsaw we've missed this season. Again though another player that couldn't pick a pass...

True although his pace could have been a real asset to us this season as oppose to the donkey gallop of our current 78 midfieldersfaaip wrote:Again though another player that couldn't pick a pass...

Sacko has pace and can't pass, I don't think we missed him much tbh

Cook has bags of potential & is a much better footballer than Sacko !faaip wrote:Sacko has pace and can't pass, I don't think we missed him much tbh
