1 - Unprepared during the close season with signings/friendly campaign
2 - Sluggish start
3 - Players needed time to gel together & acclimatise to the championship
4 - No quality players required in certain positions brought in during the January Window when it mattered
5 - The two panic signings unsettled the balance of our team who were no better than Dallas & Doukara
6 - Sutton fiasco
7 - Some would say the Pontus incident
8 - Squad far too slim & unbalanced
9 - Some players bottled it in the end
10 - Fatigue set in especially as right upto the Derby match we were a pressing team, that side of our game subsided going into the run-in with our midfield totally losing puff. The likes of Green, Wood, Bartley & Ayling all started over 40 games with Jansson & Hernandez making around 35 first team appearances. Also Wood & Pontus were travelling the globe playing for their respective countries so is it any wonder our players legs had gone in what is a long & tough league campaign with players often playing three games a week

1 - Unprepared during the close season with signings/friendly campaign - Agree
2 - Sluggish start - I would say this is linked to the numbers we introduced AND the above.
3 - Players needed time to gel together & acclimatise to the championship - see above.
4 - No quality players required in certain positions brought in during the January Window when it mattered - We needed a Central Mid that can dominate IMHO.
5 - The two panic signings unsettled the balance of our team who were no better than Dallas & Doukara - Worse I would say.
6 - Sutton fiasco - Disagree.
7 - Some would say the Pontus incident - Disagree
8 - Squad far too slim & unbalanced - Agree
9 - Some players bottled it in the end - Disagree, I just think some were running on empty by the end.
10 - Fatigue set in especially as right upto the Derby match we were a pressing team, that side of our game subsided going into the run-in with our midfield totally losing puff. The Sutton 'fiasco' was, if rumour is to be believed, Monk making the point to Cellino that whilst there was quantity in the squad, there wasn't enough quality. I agree with mav re 7 and 9; our squad, I think, lacked run-in experience, not bottle. And I'm not sure we'll ever know what happened between Monk and Jansson. We missed Jansson's presence when he was dropped/withdrawn, but I don't think that derailed our season.

I think it was a storm in a teacup tbh

Pontus stepped out of line....Monk disciplined him....some fans made more of it than it was !

I agree, stuff like that happens at every club. But what I think it does reinforce is the fact the we were, or appeared to be, hugely reliant on a few players within the squad. All the teams around us had players who could step in and fill the gaps when 1st teamers were hurt/suspended etc, we didn't. We had warm bodies, yes, but none were of the requisite quality.

2 - Hammersmith Palais, the Bolshoi Ballet, Jump back in the alley and nanny goats
3 - 18-wheeler Scammels, Domenecker camels, All other mammals plus equal votes
4 - Seeing Piccadilly, Fanny Smith and Willy, Being rather silly, and porridge oats

A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome, we can spare it - yellow socks

Think we just ran out of gas more than anything. Vieira was played too much, remember he is still only 18 years old. And trying to shuffle the midfield around to fill in the gaps showed we are lacking.

These are all good points (especially Faaip's) but, if pushed, I would say the main reason we missed out is because we came 7th.
