Harrogate v Leeds (Friendly) - Match Summary/Photos

Post by Oscar »

This should be very interesting as hopefully it will give a first real indication of what shape/formation we will be playing under Christiansen and perhaps one or two ideas tactically about what direction we are heading towards.
Unfortunately it will be behind closed doors but look forward to reading Phil Hay and media reports on the game to try and gain more of an understanding about what Thomas Christiansen is all about.
Thoughts? Any players you hope to see playing?

Personally I would hope we test out one half of 4-4-2 and a second half of 4-3-3. Really wouldn't be surprised if 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 is tested out as well.

Defensively there is a concern with potentially Bellusci and Cooper being the centre back partnership.

When is this game Oscar ?

Would be a major concern should Bellusci & Cooper start v Bolton as Pontus is suspended for the first two games. Hopefully we have signed two new CB's come the start of the season

probably use the pre season to look at the players to see what they can do on the pitch as opposed to formations and tactics , I love the Harrogate fixture and hope they throw a game in against guiseley or garforth as well which always goes a big way to helping the smaller clubs money wise .
I could stop drinking but im not a quitter

Diagouraga playing at CB, a repeat of his role in pre-season last year. Am told that he wants to fight for a place at Leeds still

75' Goal Harrogate, Thewliss picks up possession, goes through on goal and finds the back of the net 3-1

Green keeps a clean sheet and the German lets one in.

Cough... Cough!!!
With 15 minutes to go, Thewliss pulled a goal back for Harrogate,
after stealing possession from Giuseppe Bellusci, he went through
and found the back of the net.

After watching the highlights the description of the goal was incorrect. A sloppy pass was intended for Bellusci but got nowhere near him with their player intercepting and running through on goal from the halfway line - Bellusci's only option would have been a professional foul.

More concerning was their second goal as we had 4 players standing around, including Bellusci, as their guy was allowed a free header - awful defending with no one really trying to jump and win the header and the keeper not really interested in trying to claim the cross.

I've said all along without Jansson our defence is an utter shambles

Once Pontus lined up with Bartley last season they were the mainstay of our defence & kept us in many games.

Take them out & that is the standard to expect

Cooper & Bellusci not to be trusted, McKay out of his depth. Diagouraga & Ayling are not CB's

Two solid centre-backs urgently required in the next few weeks to assist Pontus.

Hopefully these sorts of games show up the shortcomings in the squad whilst we still have time to act.

I don't expect any of those to be our starting CB's come kick off but still expect Cooper to be here as back up.
