Us and Qatar

Post by Cjay »

What exactly is the deal with us and Aspire Academy?

We have a partnership with an Aspire owned club, Ivan Bravo is a director at Leeds and at Aspire.

There have been hints from Journalists that Qatar have some influence over Radz.

The Al Thani family, have in the past been linked with Leeds as buyers on a few occasions.

Just curious, not suggesting we have Qatar backing on the quiet (be nice though) :-D

But why are Aspire so keen to help us out and be partners.

I think it was always clear Andrea Radrizzani was the front for this bid and the real money behind could be from various sources. He has many contacts within the industry, in Europe, the far East and Middle East. Aser who own us have stong links to China but obviously Aspire are very much rooted in Qatar.

Whoever is the real source of the money it is clear we are part of something much bigger globally in terms of sports media, rights, investment and development.

It'll be fantastic if we have even more finances behind us than we even thought.

Always got the impression Radz wasnt the main source of funding going forward, possibly originally, but convinced he has backers.

Possibly Qatar, Aspire is state owned and reports directly to the Qatari Royal Family.
China- Everbright part own his company, China are very keen to become a footballing superpower. Everbright are traceable back to a state fund.

Who knows.

Just always been curious.

I'm underwhelmed for now - all these partnerships and alliances and references to 'future growth' apparently don't contribute a single penny to investment in the present first team squad.

Yes but without investment in the FT squad we are going nowhere, as you have remarked.

Looking at those 2 links Cjay posted, we are unlikely to get any investment or financial help from any of them, though we may benefit from some talented Aspire youngsters in the future. Unless I'm reading it wrong it's all centered around importing talented African (and other continents) youngsters and getting them naturalised in Qatar, in time for the 2022 World Cup which is to be held in - Qatar.
I may have got a detail or two wrong there because it rambles on a bit but there seem to be no direct benefits for us except unnamed future youngsters. Lots of ‘if’s and maybes.

Ages and ages on and still have no idea what the point of the Aspire partnership was or is.

Saw reports that QSI (Qatar State Investment) want to invest in a Championship club (we weren't mentioned).

But got me thinking about Aspire again.
