Kalvin Phillips

Post by Cjay »

Todays player.

Key player this season and a regular starter.

Polarising figure is the young lad.

"Leeds lad" which is a double edged sword, some give more patience, others are more critical.

Certainly hit and miss, his rashness is a concern and has been for a while. But his blood and guts attitude shows some of the fire perhaps a few of his teammates could do with.

Where do people stand on Kelvin Phillips?

As I’ve said before I’m somewhat bias when it comes to Kalvin, I don’t understand the stick he gets from some quarters, sometimes when he’s had a good game :duno:

He’s Leeds through and through, had a tough upbringing, wasn’t picked up by Leeds until he was 13/14 Captained pretty much all the teams in the developement squads and scored plenty of goals, usually playing in the number 10 role. Yes he can be inconsistent, partly due to his age but changing positions every week can’t help and sometimes he can be rash but that’s the fact he’s passionate about the club.

IMO Kalvin is a very good young player, will get better and more consistent as he gets older and plays with better players and I wouldn’t be surprised that one day he Captains the first team.

A good player but nowhere near the finished article yet. Fans should get off his back and allow him to develop and accept that he will have poor games sometimes. A tough time at the moment for TC to fit his preferred players into a formation as I think everyone would prefer Saiz in the no.10 role, and that is not anything against Phillips but more the fact that Saiz is our best no.10.

Good on the ball, poor off it. Maybe should not be playing deep as he's an attacking mid. Not a box to box CM which we lack

Being Leeds through and through doesn't make him a good player !
I like his physicality in the middle because we need that!
But for me he's a liability.
Jury's still out... !!!

Missed him out last night.

He was superb.

Tackled strongly, did his job defensively and crucial in the 1st goal.

Has a great attitude to the game and respect him for how he has continued to apply himself through some pretty fierce criticism, shows plenty of character at a fairly young age. Does need to develop some consistency but there is undoubtedly the makings of a good player in there.

Apparently Kalvin was put on a diet by Christiansen as although he is muscular he was carrying too much body fat which was considered to be making him sluggish on the park
KP says he feels much fitter & agile now & is one of the main reasons for his consistent good form this season

Not quite for me, on the ball Lewis Cook had a class about him that Kalvin doesnt as of yet.

But certainly the most improved player this season.

Lewis for me is the better natural player and he’s also won the World Cup as Captain which Kalvin hasn’t but Kalvin is an extremely good young player, one of the most improved players in our squad this season, my feeling is he’ll get even better if he stays at Leeds he’ll one day captain the first team IMO

Good from Kalvin today, crucial tackle when it looked like we were in trouble.

The long range shots that never go in are annoying but least he has a go.

Outshone Vieira today.

Read an article that KP puts it down to Christiansen who asked him to lose weight. Phillips reckons losing a stone has made him feel fitter & more mobile & he is enjoying his football than in previous seasons.

Over the season our most consistent player imo !
