Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
Good morning everyone
A hattrick from Roofe was enough to keep Leeds in the chasing pack, but it's fair to say when the Hoops fortunately grabbed a goal back, Leeds were all over the shop for a couple of minutes, only a fantastic save from Wiedwald kept us ahead.
For me his save makes atoned for his clanger a couple of minutes earlier where the big German misjudged the bounce and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
I read on another forum someone made the point that a month or two ago Wiedwald would not have saved it.
Many fans probably forget the amount of errors our outfield players made particularly in the first-half where our CB's stood firm to keep us in the game
What is the top priority in the January transfer window?
Keeper
Defender
Midfielder
Forward
If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
There is poll underway on twitter asking if Lasogga should get back into the starting line up after his injury.
Currently only 11% think that Lasogga should go straight back into the starting XI when fit.
A massive 43% say no, as he is too immobile
If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?
Cibicki certainly showed his worth on Saturday?
Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?

Left back- Bera has done a decent job, but not a fan of right footed left backs, think they can leave you to narrow and wont offer much going forward.
Center back- As improved as Liam Cooper has been, i cant stand the thought of him as 1st choice for a whole season, he has been solid recently, but he isnt consistent.
Forward player-Mimoun Mahi or someone similar, someone able to play either in the 3 behind the striker or as the striker.
Experienced mid- Guardado if we just want to show off.
If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
Ayling (sign LB shift Bera rb), Cooper (sorry, improved but still average) O'Kane (beginning to develop an irrational dislike for him, seeing him makes me cross)
If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?
Me, and i do like him, but we need more mobility. That being said, he is a proven goalscorer, nobody else we have is that, so only send back if (A) He wants to go, and (B) we are bringing in a quality replacement.
Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?
Think you have to over the Chrimbo period, otherwise you are vulnerable to burnout. Cibicki did so so well, does make you think, maybe TC does know what hes doing better then us lot, he kept Vieira back, now he looks better then ever, he kept Cibikci out, and he came in and really impressed. Perhaps, we should all trust TCs judgement more, and maybe soon we will see Klich Dallas etc.

So you want to get rid of Lasogga... a player who was, only six weeks ago, a better player than Chris Wood apparentlyCjay wrote:What is the top priority in the January transfer window?

Keeper - We need much better than we have.1964white wrote:What is the top priority in the January transfer window?
Forward - As above.
Defender Left back, move Berardi to the right.
Midfielder - Less of a concern but some games an older head is needed.
Wiedwald1964white wrote:If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
Ekuban and Roofe suit our style much better.1964white wrote:There is poll underway on twitter asking if Lasogga should get back into the starting line up after his injury
Not bothered either way but he needs to show more if he stays.1964white wrote:If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?

Not sure who, we are light with quality on the bench.1964white wrote:Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?

For the record, dont think Chris Wood would suit our style either.
Not mobile enough.

Re: Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
What is the top priority in the January transfer window?
Defender - I don't think we'd get a very good keeper in the Jan window unless we're prepared to part with a ton of money. I don't think Weidwald is a very good keeper full stop but I'll give him the season to sort himself out.
If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
If it was a must pick three and from the first team it would have to be Weidwald, Cooper, Ayling
Currently only 11% think that Lasogga should go straight back into the starting XI when fit.
No needs to ride the pine when/if he gets back which I would imagine would make him very unhappy and he'd need to up the work rate to move past Roofe and Ekuban...Roofe has scored 6 from 10 games in the league, another 3 in the cup and I'd suggest he's got those 9 with very limited playing time at centre forward. Lassoga wasn't prolific in Hamburg so where we're getting Roofe not a proven scorer and Lassoga is is a bit beyond me. Roofe has had several assists to though this may not actually be the last touch before the scorer
If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?
If he wants to stay and fight for his place and we're not over paying him he should stay. If he thinks he has a god given right to start then bye
Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?
Maybe give Klich an opportunity to get on the bench first.

Re: Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
What is the top priority in the January transfer window?
Not to lose our best players.
In terms of signing -
Goalkeeper - I do think there is good potential with FW if he can overcome some of the weaker aspects of his game. His reading of the game is good which helps the defence enormously as they can push higher knowing he is capable of sweeping up behind him - this in turn helps the midfield closing down as there is less space between our defence and midfield. As such wouldn't be a priority signing but if we could get a really decent keeper in then it would improve the team.
Left back- With CBJ not looking like getting a start it would be good to get in a specialist left back - however last season Berardi played a lot of matches there and the defence was solid and likewise this season he has been fairly solid defensively. Now if we could get someone like Charlie Taylor who defended well and got forward well then it would be an upgrade but we have to be careful as what we could gain by having someone left footed and good at going forward we could lose if they weren't as good defensively as Berardi.
Right back - Despite his faults Ayling does a reasonable job defensively and attacking and Berardi is a solid defensive right back so a rightback is not needed.
Center back- All 4 of our centrebacks have at times looked good and all have looked shaky at times. A lot is to be said for having a settled back 4 rather than necessarily 4 individually brilliant players. As such for me we can do well without needing a new centreback but again it is an area where we could get an upgrade.
Midfield - Could probably do with a tidy midfielder who keeps the ball well and keeps things simple. Not sure if Klich is the answer. This would be a priority in my opinion.
Forward player- I think Lasogga and Roofe have big questions still to answer and Ekuban is likely to be out for a while. As such a forward would be a priority.
If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
Depends on who the replacements were as realistically we could strengthen in any position but equally we could sign worse.
If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?
I would only support it if either Lasogga didn't want to stay or if TC didn't want him. Personally I think there is a very good striker there and would be disappointed if we didn't see him stay and hit top form.
Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?
If he thinks they deserve the chance. Not sure what is happening with Klich but obviously he doesn't fit into TC's plans but apart from him TC seems to have given squad players the chance to impress and not many have taken it.

A left-back in the Taylor mode1964white wrote:What is the top priority in the January transfer window?
If Pontus sustains a bad injury we are in trouble so another quality CB
A striker with pace who sits on the shoulder of a CB, similar to Jermaine Beckford in his pomp
Wiedwall, Ayling & Cooper although if we signed a top prolific striker the likes of Roofe/Lasogga would be benched for me1964white wrote:If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
Yes I would support the release of Lasogga if our management thought there is a problem with his attitude. If not & he still has the desire to fight for his place in the Leeds team I would give the big man my full support1964white wrote:If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?
Well he gave Cibicki a chance to shine on Saturday & has already been said by Cjay he wrapped up Vieira in cotton wool for a while. TC also gave Grot a few short outings but I think he has realised the 19yo is not ready for first team football yet. Hopefully he has another candidate in mind awaiting an opportunity, only Christiansen knows from what he witnesses in training at TA everyday1964white wrote:Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?
Re: Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
I do think TC got lucky with Cibicki for three reasons
Not sure the lad would have made the bench had Hernandez, Lasogga & Dallas been available
Also would Cibicki got his opportunity had it not been for the serious injury to Ekuban
Pawel was the only attacking sub on the bench too !

Re: Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
What is the top priority in the January transfer window?
January is notoriously bad for getting any real quality permanently in any position. Do we really want to spend millions for more bench warmers. Loans are probably a better option, but we have a poor record in this aspect too in January. Probably we have already got our top target in Ideguchi, but we won't be seeing him for a while.
If you could pick three players to replace from the current team, who would they be?
Left Back - Berardi is not the answer there, neither it seems is CBJ or Anita. Cancel CBJ's loan (if we can) and go for Charlie Taylor ( he is not getting any game time at Burnley).
Striker - If Ekuban is out for a while, then we would need depth. Lasogga with ball to feet is a much better player than when the ball is lumped up to him. Roofe is a handy standby. somebody like Danny Ings (if fit) on loan could be a good option. Don't think any of the U23's are ready to step up.
There is poll underway on twitter asking if Lasogga should get back into the starting line up after his injury.
Depends on Ekuban's availability, he would be first choice for me. If he is crocked, it depends on Lasogga's state of mind. Not quite sure what has been the problem with him. Roofe's performance on Saturday might prompt TC into giving him a longer run as striker.
If Lasogga were to be released back to his parent club in January, who would support this?
Depends on the circumstances, not sure whether we can terminate a season loan anyway.
Should Christiansen be giving some of the other fringe players an opportunity from the bench?
Klich is the obvious one, but I don't think TC sees him as mobile enough. Definite skill there though. he should at least be making the bench. Cibicki has promoted himself to definite bench, and maybe starter, after Saturday.

Re: Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
To be honest, I'd play Tyler Denton at Left-back, and Berardi at right-back. Then we have Ayling as good back-up for centre-backs, and right-back. We would also still have Berardi and Anita as decent back-up for left-back. With the money this saves us, I would buy Guardado so we have three very good defensive midfielders, and Viera and Phillips would learn from him.
The next row of three in our team is fine as it is, with decent cover, and Dallas to come back.
That just leaves the strike force.
I like Roofe and Ekuban, but with Ekuban injured, we need a proven striker as cover, or a partner for Roofe. Lasogga would make a good pert near for Roofe, but as a lone target man, he hadn't got the work-rate. So if we're sticking with a lone striker, we need someone like big with good work-rate, or small and fast with good work-rate. Either way, Roofe has earned the strikers spot for now.
Lasogga should only be kept if TC has plans to use two strikers. If we're sticking with one, send him back.

Re: Monday Breakfast Debate - Priorities/Fringe Players/Lasogga
Tyler Denton currently can't even getinto the Port Vale team so not sure he is the answer - plenty of potential but like Lewis Coyle, and Charlie Taylor before him, he needs to get games and experience under his belt. He has played just 12 times for Port Vale but this was mainly under Michael Brown's management - since October, and the appointment of Neil Aspin, he has hardly had a look in.8ballali wrote:To be honest, I'd play Tyler Denton at Left-back, and Berardi at right-back. Must be going backward with them then, cos he looked every inch ready when he played in our first team in the cup. He even scored.
