My dear mum was District Nursing in the Leeds/Bradford area when the Ripper was on the loose, even more scary was the fact she couldn't drive at the time so she had to use local bus services to visit her patients

Never turned out as good as he could have been, likely needs a fresh challenge, if he still as the desire, looked disinterested for a few seasons now.

Re the Nottingham train station fire.....appears to be an arson offence

We live in a mad world mate !

There have been a spate of fires of late......one at British Steel in Lincolnshire yesterday & a couple at Zoo's of all places where sadly animals perished :(

I remember those years as well 64. Awful times around Yorkshire. I used to do the occasional weekend night shift at Heron petrol Station in Wakefield to earn extra money to buy a Triumph Spitfire. The doors were locked and we used to serve through a little window. Because we didn't know what he looked like, it was very scary. Osset police used to come in for their night shift breaks and sit with me....I then started the early morning shift at Huddersfield Heron, actually opening up at 8.00a.m. Being the person to open up the site, there was no changeover and I was outside on my own reading the pumps in the darkness of early morning. Very scary....but then the tragedy of young helen rytka....who's young 18 year old body was found in the wood yard that I used to drive past, just behind the petrol station. I was questioned by CID, in case I had seen anyone suspicious in a white car come in to Heron. Awful awful times that I think those of us women in Yorkshire will never forget, that feeling of fear...fear of someone you didn't know. Bet your dear Mum felt the same way 64...

I think my dad, brother & I were more concerned than mum was. She was a hard-working, determined & plucky woman was my mum & did her best to calm our worries saying things like "he wouldn't attack me" & "I'll be fine"

Mum, dad & our kid moved South in late 1977 so moving away from Leeds was a relief at the time.
I followed in early 1978

I flew out to the Middle East to work in 1980...he was still around then. I was so pleased when I heard he'd been caught and relieved for everyone.
(On a different note, have a safe and pleasant journey down here tomorrow Leon, and I hope the game is better for you to watch than we both fear, I'll be thinking of you just being down the road :) )

Cheers my dear Swan

Looking forward to the trip. plenty of pals on the coach & we are stopping off at a new pub for us in a village unbeknown to us all until tomorrow as the pub that generally welcomes us are refurbishing their premises during January.

No doubt our main man big Phil will say as we board the coach after our pub-stop.....
It all goes downhill from here on

The best part was where Fearless Leader blamed the cancellation on Obama.

He makes me embarrassed to be an American.
