Kevin Beattie.

Post by paddy parrott »

RIP Kevin Beattie.
Ipswich Town and I understand the best player never to get an England cap.
Tough and skilfull midfielder, defender too in a marvellous team back in 70's.

He did play for England 9 times . Don Revie handed him is first cap when England beat Cyprus 5 - 0 and Malcolm Macdonald scored all five . Beattie had a goal disallowed . I was in the crowd that night as I used to go fairly regularly to watch England back then . Tremendous player whose career was blighted by injury.

Beattie was a fine footballer

RIP

I don't like to talk ill of the bereaved but I had the misfortune of ejecting Beattie & his pals Marriner, Wark, Butcher & a couple of others from a South-West record store I was managing around 1979/80, they were obviously the worse for wear after having one too many in the middle of the afternoon as they were behaving like drunkard teenagers. Quite scary for my staff when we tried to escort them from the shop as they were far bigger than we were, in the end I asked my assistant manageress to ring the police & they all shot out of the door in haste as the thought of them appearing in the daily rags the next day misbehaving probably scared the living daylights out of them. Boys will be boys !

Had the pleasure of talking to Bobby Robson on one of the underground tubes whilst we were travelling to a London game in the 90's Paddy. Bobby was a true gentlemen, three of us conversed with him for about half-an-hour, he was such an amiable bloke, he just love talking football :soccer:
