1976 AMC Gremlin X with a 304 cubic inch V8 engine.
Ugly little car, but very fast. Now I drive an ugly little slow car.

Re: First Car
My first car was a Datsun 120Y bought in 1982 for £700
I can even remember the registration JDL 652P
I loved that car. Unfortunately the floor well rotted after a couple of years so it had to go.

My favourite car of my own (wrong thread!) was a K Reg old style London Black Cab 484000 on the clock bus class. Took it to France and had everyone taking pictures!

Re: First Car
it was a 75 IIRC. My cousin bought it a couple of years old then I "borrowed" it for about 18 months in the early 80's after I hit a PO van that had pulled out on me and stopped on my CX500C.
Stunning bike and a real seat of you pants ride, acceleration from 0 was almost frightening. But what balance

Stunning bikes in their day. A couple of lads I used to ride with in the 80's had mid 70's Z900's, another a Z1B, while I was two stroking on a Yam RD400Efaaip wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 10:13 am it was a 75 IIRC. Re: First Car
Back on track, while 2 wheels, 4 wheels, or anything with an engine has always been one of my passions, first car mid 80's was a Triumph Dolomite Sprint, (Yellow with black vinyl roof if I am not mistaken).
Had a few triumphs in my early days, before I took ownership of a wonderful Ford Granada Ghia.

1976 AMC Gremlin X
One of only a few hundred made with a 304 cubic inch V8 engine.
Don't know how fast it could go because the speedometer only went to 120 mph (193 kph)

Re: First Car
Ford Escort mk1 in white, yes another. I remember that the starter motor (I think) kept jamming so you had to take the hand brake off, get out of the car and rock it until you heard a click then it would start. This wasn’t too bad unless you were parked on a hill then it was a nightmare!

Re: First Car
I learnt to drive on a farm in my aunt's mini, so before I went on the road I could already control a vehicle and round up sheep.
My Allegro was white, with a brown interior and a circular steering wheel. The back seat had been removed so I could get my Marshall speaker cabinet in. Rear passengers had to make do with a couple of scatter cushions on the bare metal.
It was a tricksy beast. In damp weather, starting it required a twenty minute application of the hair dryer to the carburettor, so this had to be factored in to any journey time. Actually arriving at the required destination frequently called for assistance from the AA. I paid for relay, and still do out of superstition.
My second car was a 1968 VW Beetle in headache yellow, so my motoring life began with what have been voted the two crappest cars ever made.
