Burns chases a bouncer and it is 20/3.

Stokes promoted to No 5 comes in for a crack at Hazlewood and Cummings.

Our bowlers did their job yesterday, I was rather hoping our batsmen would do theirs today

Has Joe's batting suffered since he took captaincy?

Don’t think so. The ball he got today was a Jaffa. Unplayable

Yes without any doubt Swannie, his average was 52, now down to 40

It doesn't help Joe coming in at No.3, our openers are so poor Root is almost opening the innings

When will the England coach learn, Root is a No.4 batsman

Lunacy from Stokes chasing a wide one from Pattison and Bairstow arrived at the crease.

David Gower claiming Aussies have been lucky 😂

Hypocrite 🏏

Root should not be playing as more or less a opener to cover our deficiencies in the team

England playing one day stuff in Test cricket :x

Crazy Stokes playing a ball so wide, so our 2nd best batsman is out on a good wicket & the sun is shining

Root stepped up to 3 to try and fix the opening bat problem. Since Strauss retired Cook had 14 opening partners , since Cook retired it has got even worse. There has been a massive hole in the top 3. So the pressure on Root is more to do with that issue than him carrying the weight of captaincy imo.

I agree, but England will have to continue to experiment until they find the right combination.

Perhaps they will have to go down the passport route.

And Johnny nicks behind and it is 6 down...

Not with our sloggers, they are clueless when they enter the Test arena

Bairstow out for 4

Disgraceful display from England

so if England need to bat all day to win... why are they not stonewalling every ball?

Have they not watched Geoff boycotts finest 17 day innings??

Because this lot don't know the defensive side of cricket

Sir Geoffrey would have sucked the weak Australian bowling attack in & took 'em to the cleaners on the bad balls.

Geoff scored 246 not out v India, England won the match & promptly dropped him.....idiots!

This display will surely test the quadruple bypass he had to months ago.

Today should have been one of his proudest moments. An Ashes test at Headingley...

Lordy England bag one first ball after lunch.

Woaksey back in the hutch!!!

67 allout.

5fer for Hazlewood.

The lowest England total at Headingley.

England back in batting by stumps....

This is set up for one of the greatest Ashes ever.
