Leeds United Supporters Trust announces details of their planned 'campaign for change' protest March on 11th February ahead of the Brighton home game. The statement on the Trusts website reads;
Further to our recent meeting with West Yorkshire Police, we can confirm that the planned protest march on 11th February will go ahead albeit with a slight alteration to the proposed route. The protest will now set off from City Square rather than Victoria Square. It will end at the Billy Brember statue where we are hoping the media will be.
People are asked to make sure that they get there for 13:00 with the planned march due to begin at 13:15.
Can we ask those who are intending on coming to the protest to please come on public transport where possible. Any groups that are coming on coaches are asked to park at ER and make their way back to the starting point. It’s worth noting that the Football Special buses don’t start until 13:00 so the chances of getting a bus back into the city centre is going to be difficult at that time. If your coach is intending on dropping off people beforehand can we ask that the dropping off point be Sovereign Street. You will also need to let the authorities know about this as part of the operator’s licence regulations.
Those that are intending on bringing banners – just be aware that the club may not let them in the ground, especially if they are not flame retardant. We ask that there are no offensive banners and that they show a positive message to change. The protest needs to be peaceful otherwise it will completely lose the message.
There will be a small police presence but we don’t see any problem with that. They have been very helpful when working with us. We urge our members and fans who intend on going to the 'campaign for change' march to do so in a safe, peacful manner.
So what do we need from you guys:
VOLUNTEERS – we need a group of people who will just be stewards for the march. This will mean that you can’t take any banners or such and your job is to make sure that people are safe and point them in the right direction. It is also a requirement to wear something distinctive so we have agreed to wear Hi-Vis jackets. We will also require volunteers to go through a briefing beforehand so we would ask those who are interested in being a steward to come along to our next meeting to be held on the 9th February at the Magic Sponge.
