Mirco’s brace provides some relief

Post by YorkshireSquare »

A coffin was carried down Lowfields Road before the game as part of an anti Cellino protest but Leeds were very much alive and kicking on the pitch with a brace of goals from Mirco Antenucci securing our first win for twelve games. The opposite of Sampson, cutting his hair seems to have worked for Antenucci with his newly trimmed beard bringing his first goal since Huddersfield game in November. I recon you’d have got good odds at Hityah Sports on an Antenucci double.

It was a vital win too, defeat on Saturday would have left Leeds laying in eighteenth in the table only six points off the relegation places. With Rotherham and Charlton both winning they may still both think they are in with a chance of survival and we do not want to be dragged into a relegation fight. As it is we move back up to sixteenth, nine points off Rotherham in twenty-second.

With eleven games left there are still plenty of points to play for but even the most optimistic fan will have written our change of making the play-offs off weeks ago. A frustrating run of eleven games without a win has put an end to our season after a brief spell of positivity. The win will also be important for Evans, backed by Cellino after the Brighton debacle he definitely had a point to prove.

No wins in eleven is certainly sacking form based on Cellino’s track record but sticking with Evans this time must mean he is going to remain in the dugout for next season, surely? We certainly look like a more rounded team with Berardi and Bellusci back but there is still much to improve on. The question is now that Cellino has indicated Evans is not facing the sack will he back him in the summer to move the team forward?
