And so it begins again...

Post by YorkshireSquare »

And so that it, the summer break is over and the Championship season starts again tonight with Leeds kicking off on Sunday at QPR. Time again to be checking out those live football scores every weekend. Leeds have quietly gone about their business this summer, a change from usual seasons, two good appointments in key areas give me confidence going forward. Ben Mansford joined as CEO from Barnsley where he had built up a solid reputation and Garry Monk as head coach undoubtedly one of the best young English managerial prospects. The most important thing though is that Cellino seems to have let them get on with their work.

Lewis Cook departing is a kick in the teeth but it was almost inevitable. In an era when relegated teams such as Newcastle can spend £40 million in the transfer window it is always going to be hard to keep hold of young players. You can check out the latest signings, news and betting tips at sbat.com. The fact that he’s gone to Bournemouth when many Leeds fans would have envisaged Cook playing at the very highest level perhaps tells the story that modern football is most definitely all about the money rather than the glory.

A further blow to the good work done was done when Charlie Taylor handed in a transfer request earlier this week but the club have so far held firm, if they manage to keep hold of Taylor this summer it will be seen as a major success...
The club can confirm that a transfer request from Charlie was received over the weekend. Garry Monk and club president Massimo Cellino agreed at the start of the transfer window that Charlie would not be sold and, therefore, the transfer request has been formally rejected. The club has every confidence that Charlie will continue to conduct himself properly and play his part this season as the club pushes towards the top of the Championship.
There has been a fairly large turnover of players this summer with 7 players departing and 7 arriving. Antennucci, Wootton, Bianchi, Sloth and Cook all depart on permanent deals with Bellusci and Erwin loaned out. Coming in on permanent deals we have Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson, experienced goalkeeper Robert Green, wingers Kemar Roofe and Billy Whitehouse. On loan deals; defender Kyle Bartley, attacking midfielder Hadi Sacko, midfielder Matt Grimers and experienced Spanish winger Pablo Hernández. Overall a good pedigree of signing with a mixture of youth and experience. Still a little light in defence though which is something Monk will need to prioritise in the coming weeks.

I’m the most confident and positive about an upcoming season I have been for years. Good appointments have been made, solid signings all point to progress in the right direction. This year is going to be extremely tough, especially with the big clubs who have come down but provided Cellino lets his new appointments get on with their jobs I think we could do well.
