Post by YorkshireSquare » Mon Jul 31, 2017 8:32 pm

Leeds United have undergone some changes this summer ahead of the 2017-2018 season which will certainly have a major impact on their potential performance. The big news, of course, is Thomas Christensen’s appointment as head coach. After the team reached sixth place in the league table under Garry Monk, Christensen seems serious about making some big changes to put the team on a new track. Another important change has been Paul Butlers’ appointment as the assistant head coach. Butler, who was previously at Doncaster Rovers and Oldham, said that it was a great chance to get into a competitive season and will help the team reach better results.

SD Huesca’s midfielder Samuel Saiz has signed a four-year deal to join Leeds. The former Real Madrid trainee transferred from Atletico Madrid to Huesca in March 2016. Another player is Ezgjan Alioski who has also signed a four-year contract joining from FC Lugano. Werder Bremen’s goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald joined Leeds on a three-year deal. The keeper helped his team reach the 8th place in the Bundesliga, making for them 26 appearances in the previous season.

FC Twente’s midfielder Mateusz Klich also joined the team on a three-year contract. While the Polish player had some spells on his previous teams, he says that he is very excited to start playing in England and test himself in the Championship. Newcastle's Vurnon Anita joined Leeds on a three-year deal, which shines to be very promising one, considering his previous achievements, including the Championship title. Chievo Verona’s Caleb Ekuban signed a four-year contract, playing in the previous season on loan for Albanian team, FK Partizani. Sporting Lisbon’s Hadi Sacko transferred for a three-year deal, making previously 38 league appearances.

It’s also worth reminding that defender Pontus Jansson signed a three-year contract at the beginning of the summer, having shown what he can do already last season he will be a key signing this coming season. Liverpool’s midfielder Madger Gomes has also joined the team on a three-year deal, where he is expected to show a more impressive performance after his failed breakthrough on Merseyside.

Everton’s defender Matthew Pennington signed a season lonf loan deal for Leeds. He has made 9 appearances for Everton, and will be part of Thomas Christiansen’s defensive options along with Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson. Meanwhile, the team has seen players such as Giuseppe Bellusci, Luke Murphy, and Lewie Coyle leave the club. However, one of the most exciting news has been their purchase of Elland Road stadium, after it was sold by the Yorkshire Consortium to Jacob Adler back in 2004. With so many changes, the club has been almost reborn, and their attempts at reaching the Premier League might succeed this time.
