Can Investment Give Leeds a Shot at Jack Marriott?
Could financing be able to hand Leeds United Football Club the chance to afford a £6.5 million deal for Jack Marriott? The Club is apparently very interested in acquiring the striker for League One club Peterborough United, but that’s the price tag attached to the player if they want to get the deal done.
Meeting Posh’s Demands is a No Brainer
The Sun has reported that Leeds United are just one of the Championship teams that have shown interest in signing Marriott from Peterborough over the summer, but the Whites will have to fork out to make the move happen.
Taking Marriott’s form this past season into account, which online punters making use of football betting sites around the world have no doubt been doing, it’s easy to see why he’s in demand. Marriott scored a total of 33 goals in his competitions, including eight in his last ten appearances on the campaign.
Radrizzani Seems Hesitant
While Leeds United’s books seem to have been in good order since Andrea Radrizzani has taken over the Whites’ ownership, he has, thus far at least, been reluctant to part with massive sums of money when it comes to signing individual players. Certainly, the Club strategy during Victor Orta’s first year as Director of Football seems to be based on uncovering diamonds in the rough for lower prices.
Transfermarkt shows that meeting the asking price for Marriott would make him the most expensive signing for Leeds United since their relegation from the Premier League by quite a bit: Adam Forshaw is the only player that the Club has dropped more than £4 million on since 2004!
A Disappointing End to the Season May Herald Change
But, after such a disheartening final few months of the season, it seems that Radrizzani is thinking about changing his market tactics slightly, and the Club has made an announcement that indicates that he has managed to secure the necessary funds that may increase the potential of a spending spree in the near future.
The 49ers Bought Into the Club
Leeds announced that the National Football League franchise the San Francisco 49ers have bought a minority stake in the club, and the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that around £10 million changed hands as a part of the deal, with at least some of that going to boost Paul Heckingbottom’s war chest over the summer.
Keeping this in mind, it certainly seems far more realistic to imagine that Leeds United FC will not shy away from the asking price for Marriott. That’s if they decide that he’s the kind of striker who could get them back into the Premier League, of course.
Up until now, Leeds FC supporters have given up on hoping that the Whites could have a target in mind if they heard that the asking price was anything over £5 million, but after this transfer policy failed as miserably as it did on multiple fronts last season, and in light of the major boost to their summer bankroll, big changes may be afoot!
