Do You Want To Win?

Post by Shields53 » Thu Jul 26, 2018 9:43 am

Sunday the 26th of April 1992 has gone down in Leeds United history, the date that Leeds United won the First Division Championship. An unlikely story, a story of second division wilderness to Champions of England. A story that began three and a half years earlier with the arrival of Howard Wilkinson at Elland road.

Howard Wilkinson’s arrival at Leeds United on 10th October 1988 was a total surprise as Leeds were next to the bottom of the Second Division, while Sheffield Wednesday were in the top half of the First Division. To lure a Manager of Wilkinson’s undoubted ability on a four year contract was a major coup for the club.

When Wilkinson arrived United were a precarious 23rd with just 6 points to show for their 9 games played. Over the next three and a half years Wilkinson put together a side that would win promotion to Division On and ultimately go on to reclaim the Championship after 18 years to become the final winners of the Football League Division One as the country’s top League on Sunday the 26th of April 1992.

Leeds-based film studio The City Talking is thrilled to announce that their new film, a sports documentary called ‘Do You Want To Win?’, is set for its international release. Premiered last year, it will be released on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service. This is the The City Talking’s second film release on Amazon this year; ‘As Good As It Gets’, a documentary about Leeds’ Rhinos golden generation, launched on Prime Video in May 2018.

Do You Want To Win? tells the story of Leeds United from 1988 to 1992 culminating in their title-winning campaign — the last time Leeds United were promoted to the country’s top flight. The film stars Vinnie Jones, Gordon Strachan, Gary McAllister, Howard Wilkinson and more.

Lee Hicken, CEO of The City Talking, expresses his delight at the news;

We are really proud of Do You Want To Win?, and so excited to share the film with international audiences on Prime Video. With the upcoming new season, the timing could not be better; fans will be able to relive the story of the last time Leeds United were promoted from this division and the personalities behind the revolution under Howard Wilkinson.

This is an interesting time for Leeds as a city, with the Channel 4 bid gathering momentum, the city continually developing and the football club under new ownership and management. After the success of our first release ‘As Good As It Gets?’ trending on Amazon, we are excited to take another Leeds story to a global audience.

The full film will be available to watch for Prime Video customers across the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
