Marcelo Bielsa: The Crazy Genius Making Leeds Great Again

Post by YorkshireSquare »

Marcelo Bielsa certainly caused a stir when he arrived at Elland Road. Touted as ‘one the most influential football minds of his generation’ with the likes of Pep Guardiola describing him in the past as ‘the best manager in the world’ there are plenty of footballing reasons to get excited. But there are as many oddities and quirks off the pitch that have been just as big talking points.

He famously measured a thirteen year old Mauricio Pochettino’s legs whilst he slept, he built bungalows at the training centre at Lille so the players could sleep between sessions and he has already had the Leeds United players picking up rubbish for three hours after training so that they understood how much work most fans would need to do to be able to afford to go to the match.

Held in high regard for his knowledge and tactics his trophy cabinet doesn’t quite match but “El Loco” has had an incredible start to the season with Leeds. But will it be enough to bring the glory days back to Elland Road? COPA90 have taken a look at his story so far…

Video from COPA90, nice bit of Phil Hay in there too!

The loss to Birmingham was a bit of a reality check but the swagger was back against Sheffield Wednesday, even if we didn’t get the win. Tonight’s game against an out of form Hull City will be a good chance to get back to winning ways before a tougher test against promotion rivals Brentford on Saturday.
