Key fixtures for Leeds if they are to return to the Premier league

Post by YorkshireSquare »

Leeds continue to push for the Championship title this season and more importantly progression back into the Premier league. They have proved a popular selection amongst punters using the Matchbook bonus code with Leeds a general 9/4 to pick up the Championship title come the end of the season. So what are the key fixtures remaining for Leeds if they are to finish in those top spots?

Leeds United v Sheffield United
Sat 16th March

Possibly the most important upcoming fixture for Leeds is the come clash with Sheffield United. This is due to the fact that Sheffield United are themselves pushing at the top of the table, with just a few points separating both sides. Could this decide the automatic promotion places? It is a must win game for both sides as we move into the latter stages of the Championship season.

The previous encounter between the two sides earlier this season finished 1-0 to Leeds following a late 82nd minute winner from Hernandez. Leeds will certainly start as the favourites for this encounter with it being played at Elland road. They have also recently come off the back of a stunning 4-0 victory over title rivals West Brom, so will enter this run of fixtures full of confidence. A victory over Sheffield United would put Leeds firmly on course for a return to the top flight of English football.

Birmingham v Leeds United
Sat 6th April

The next clash that looks to be of great importance is the away trip to Birmingham. On their day Birmingham are a very good side but have been rather in and out for much of the season. This has seen them sitting around mid-table, so they will be hoping for a strong finish to the season. Leeds are going to go into this game as favourites and three points could be massive for their title aspirations. The previous encounter between the two sides finished 2-1 to Birmingham, despite Leeds dominating the game with 72 per cent of possession.

Ipswich Town v Leeds United
Sun 5th May

Ipswich sit bottom of the table and look likely to face relegation, but the final game of the season could be a key fixture for Leeds. With the title race continuing to be in the balance with the top sides separated by just a few points, this means it could go down to the final games of the season. Leeds will start as the strong favourites for the game, and hopefully will have already secured progression to the Premier league. The previous encounter earlier this season finished 2-0 to Leeds, in what was a very dominating performance. Leeds will be expecting a similar performance in the away fixture.
