Can't beat Eels. Daisies good, Freak nearly as good a debut as there has ever been (top10 surely) and my favourite SoulJacker. Electro is a touch depressing and Blinking Lights a must for mellowing out

Steeple is one of those albums you have to sit and really listen to, to get the most out of it, some great intricate guitar work.hector wrote:playing it every now and then, it is scheduled for the next week or so....

You guys have been there back in the 70's. Midlake are influenced by the likes of Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, America, Floyd, Joni Mitchell with a modern edge, so what's not to like about the boys from Texas ?
The Trials of Van Occupanther
And from the more folkier side of the band, harmony/guitar comparisons with Wishbone Ash, Pink Floyd, Fairport Conention, Steeleye Span, Byrds, Pentangle & their best album imo !
Every Midlake fan will tell you The Courage Of Others seemed lukewarm on first hearing. It takes 7 or 8 listens for the album to hook you & when it does what a joy.
One of my top ten albums of all-time
The Courage Of Others
Gorgeous

Well those bonus subjects fell straight into my hands Bert with Cover Versions for the first contestant & 60's hits for the other player.beer belly bert wrote:nice one Leon , just going to dig out an old favourite for this mornings entertainment (after I listen to pop master ) ,
Can't recall doing so well on popmaster
36 in part one - only missed out on the Alexander O'Neal answer
33 in part two - Ace of Base hit Don't Turn Around eluded me & not a hope of getting the group Roman Holiday from 1983
I suspect a friend in Leeds may have got maximum points in at least one of the quizzes. I find out tomorrow on our journey to Birmingham

I shall mostly be listening to a chunk of albums from the album poll, finally got round to placing a full on order with Amazon and due to arrive today + a bit of King Creosote, Slowclub, Nick Cave and Bright Eyes. You guys had better be right about Midlake

Bamnan & Silvercork has heavy influences of Radiohead & The Flaming Lips
Van Occupanther is their most commercial album & immediate mate
Courage Of Others requires several listens, all of a sudden it grabs you & is a sheer joy. You'll be singing out their wonderful melodic lyrics. Their best imo :sing:
Antiphon - Not their best but still very good, back to a cross between their first two albums & away from the folky sound of Courage

Van Occupanther and Courage of Others are the ones incoming but may be adding Bamnan and Silvercork by the sounds of it as Wayne Coyne and FLs are a bit of a fave........Radiohead not bad either1964white wrote:Six of us can't be wrong NW

No not his scene matefaaip wrote:Riot one of the six yet? ....
All six on here
Ges, Nick, Durly, BB, Mrs 64 & myself....actually it maybe 7 as John regularly votes for them & I think Bob has a few times too.
The ones into the 70's scene strangely appear not to be so keen even though Midlake are a guitar/keyboard/flute rock, folky orientated band & are definitely influenced from that era in the main
Just so pleased a modern band does so well in our polls

I'm the last hold out...not my kind of thing either. I'm no folk or Neil Young fan
