People like the ideas but won't vote for a Socialist. He's going to be a ridiculously easy target for the right-wing media to pick off in the coming weeks though. If they could do such an easy number on Milliband then they'll make light work of JC.
It will be grim viewing for the likes of you and me, mate. Chairman May will march back in with an increased majority and the perfect opportunity to further s*** on the poor and vulnerable and push through the "hard Brexit" that we apparently all voted for. We are edging ever closer to being a one-party state. The next few years are going to be very grim indeed. :(
I wouldn't be surprised if Corbyn resigns in the next couple of weeks

Electorate, particularly over here, is reaching saturation point, Ronan. I can see a really poor turnout, mate, people are fed up voting only for the clowns on the hill to c**k it up repeatedly

Durly wrote:Socialism as a concept has been demonised by the right-wing media, mate. It's looked upon with disdain now, even though the vast majority of the population agree with and share a good amount of its basic tenets. Just look at that Thatcher meme that goes around from time to time. Has a picture of her and says something like "the problem with Socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money". Guff. Utter s***. Was it Socialism that made the bankers gamble all our money away? No. The main issue is (I think) that as a Capitalist, consumer society, we have all been told repeatedly that Socialism doesn't fit in with the principles of being a "free economy".........which again is nonsense. If you agree with any form of state help or intervention - a free at point of use health service, financial help if you get ill and can't work/get made unemployed, are in danger of being made homeless, then you agree with the basic principle of Socialism.
For me, that isn't even socialism, that's basic decency which should be a right in any democracy. But you're right, whilst Murdoch and his ilk hold the influence they do and are, in fact, king-makers (or queen-makers in this case), we won't see a true socialist PM or govt. They destroyed Milliband as they couldn't have a PM who wasn't in hoc to them, that wouldn't have gelled with their agenda. Just as they did with Foot and Kinnock before that.

Labour can't go into the election with a new leader this late but he has the same chance Foot did which is none. The tactical vote will be interesting this time. I'll be tactical voting to get the moron Gove out.

Corbyn is at a starting point way behind even where Foot was. Foot had quite a polling lead prior to the Falklands conflict which turned everything for Thatcher. That, coupled with the lovely, unbiased, British press doing their usual number on MF left him with no chance. JC was within a couple of points of Cameron up until Brexit and the PLP coup. Any confidence that may have existed in him outside of Momentum was shot after that.
You're right though. Labour can't change leader now. JC will be decimated and then they start again with a new leader shortly afterwards.

Choosing one of the party's now is not easy.

It's a bit like if Leeds folded and being told you can only choose out of Chelsea (Tories),Derby (Labour), Millwall (UKIP), Crewe( Liberals) or Luton (Greens) to support next, not sure I'll bother.

I am with you Gessa, never felt such apathy to the political scene in this country as I do now. For various reasons, I will never ever vote Tory but you just feel voting labour right now is just a pointless exercise. I fear that it's going to be the biggest hiding for many a decade come June 8th. If Corbyn had any decency he would walk right now but it wont happen. The man is just so deluded to think he will have enough support from the nations electorate to win, hell he probably hasnt got anywhere near a majority support from he's own MP's in the commons !!

Oh, I wish that David Milliband could somehow be jettisoned into the role immediately. He should have been the leader years ago but the wrong brother was chosen...............

Interesting take on things from Caroline Lucas of the Greens. I would welcome this, as I think it's probably the only way of working to stop a Tory landslide and I shall vote Lib Dem around here as it's a Tory/Lib Dem marginal. Can't see Corbyn going for it though.

I've seen this discussed before, Durly, and I think a progressive alliance, even an informal one, is the only way to stop the Tories. Corbyn would be foolish not to at least consider it. He needs to be a realist and, from what I understand, the Greens' policies align in a lot of places with his own. Lib Dems might be a stumbling point but, again, Farron needs to be realistic about his party's chances.

That is the only chance for the Labour Party Gurj

There are discrepancies with whatever political party runs our country, no doubt if the reds somehow won the June election we'd experience spiralling debt & unemployment would increase once again

The Tories are feeding their own fat pockets & seem intent on destroying the NHS

The rest are just a sheer waste of space !

It's absolutely the only solution at this stage, mate. I hope they all see sense and work together but I think Corbyn's stubbornness will be the main stumbling block. :(
