Tribunals usually hedge their bets by setting a low transfer fee and then having a lot of adds on i.e. extra £1m if they play 40 games, extra £1m if they get an international cap etc. However that benefits the buying club immensely in my opinion as if the player doesn't live up to their potential then the buying club has only wasted a small amount of money on the low transfer fee and if the player does achieve his potential then again the buying club is happy as they have signed a great player and still not paid over the odds.
