Thursday's Breakfast Debate....Two Signings Today/Bellusci

Post by 1964white »

Saiz is set to FINALLY become a Leeds player today. Ezgjan Alioski, better known as Gianni to set to follow

Gianni is versatile, and can play as a winger, attacking midfielder, forward or left back (but not all at once)

Will the ink dry before they get on the plane tomorrow?

Thomas Christiansen has confirmed that Giuseppe Bellusci will exit Leeds this summer.

“Bellusci is already out,” said Christiansen, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Everyone took this decision. It was clear.

“The situation was not easy but we understood that this is best for the team and the club. We have to handle it as well as possible.”

It is understood that Bellusci will continue to train with the Whites until an approach is made for him but the Yorkshire Evening Post says that no serious offer has been made for him yet, despite interest from Italian outfits Cagliari and Benevento.

Alioski is probably the most exciting prospect from the signings so far.
Surely this has to be enough midfielders/ forwards , we have to get in at least 1 new CB and a LB now.

Would be nice to get a fee for Bellusci but I can see them tearing up his contract by mutual consent so he can negotiate his own move, just to get rid. .

Also Spanish youngster Alejandro Machuca on his way today

The Rayo Vallecano teenager is set to join the Whites, with Union Rayo reporting a deal has been agreed and he leaves with the club's blessing.

Midfielder Alejandro Machuca

Also anyone think Alioski is coming here to play LB?

I hope he's the one wearing the cap.

It looks to me that the club may not be pursuing a starting left back and are going to have Berardi there all season with the likes of Anita and Alioski providing cover (whilst also being in the first team/squad in their preferred positions). This to some degree is a good thing as otherwise you have 2 quality right backs competing for 1 position every week and as such 1 would be on the bench and not happy. With Berardi's versatility it means he would be first choice left back and would drop into rightback if Ayling was injured with either Anita or Alioski coming in to left back.

Obviously the concern is if either Ayling or Berardi gets a long term injury but equally it would be very hard to find a left back as good as Berardi who would be happy to just sit on the bench.

The criteria now would surely be to get a tarting centreback. It will be interesting to see how Cooper does alongside Jannson as I felt Bartley only looked good once PJ started playing for us. But even if a Cooper and PJ partnership worked we would still need another first team quality centreback.

Beradi played well at left back at times last season, obviously and easily the second best defender at the club and the number 1 RB, but he's not a natural LB whereas Gianni is, It looks to me like Ayling and Gianni are intended to play as wing backs this season with Weidwald as the sweeper/keeper (hate that phrase btw and the position)

I make that 15 midfielders now with the probable arrival of Alejandro Machuca, though he may go straight into the youth team.

Not that much shorter than last season Faaip

We have Green, Wiedwald, Ayling, Jansson, Cooper, Wood, Klich, Sacko & Doukara

We've lost Bartley (who has to be replace without any shadow of doubt) & Taylor

Nice to see we have a deep squad

When perusing the programmes at matches it was noticeable our squad was small in comparison to other clubs over the last few seasons

Maybe, as weasel alludes, we're not going for an out-and-out LB, but surely we must be either working on getting Bartley back, or we are pursuing a replacement? I'm not a fan of utility players, personally, too much of the jack of all trades, master of none for me. Lets buy players who have a defined position. And given we could field a team and bench of solely midfield players, that means a CB, a LB and a striker.

Would that be a Playmaker or a Game Changer?

Judging from the videos I've seen of the new signees, we're going to be playing with a good deal more pace this year.

We may end up conceding more than I'd like, but I'm pretty certain we're going to see a lot more goals.

Don't know that much about Saiz or Klich but even with the amount of MF players we have I'm not sure we have the sort of player who makes a team tick, bit like Shelvey / Mooy could do last season, someone who can drop off the MF and pick up the ball from the back 4 and distribute well, always seems to be in the right place and find space to take possession - our DMF were lacking last season and in comparison often looked short of time and under pressure. Saiz seems an out and out 10 so hopefully Klich, maybe Anita fits the bill.
