Going to post a couple today, as we've lost the great Grant Hart of Husker Du and another wonderful, less lauded musician from West London (more of which on my next post).
Re: Song Of The Day - Post up your song for today folks !
So, I only just heard this week that Billy Franks, well known West London musician and former front man of mid 80s "nearly men" Faith Brothers, died a year ago. I'm not sure how I didn't hear about this at the time but 2016 was littered with the deaths of great musicians and I suppose the news just got lost to me amongst everything else that was happening at the time. It actually made me really sad. He was such a well loved figure in and around Hammersmith/Fulham.
I always felt that Faith Brothers could have been really big, had things worked out better for them. I remember seeing them at Milton Keynes bowl on a bill with Spear Of Destiny, Billy Bragg, Ramones, REM and U2 and they didn't seem out of place on the big stage at all. 'Stranger On Home Ground' I always thought had the tune and swagger to be a massive hit but, as I say, it never quite happened for them.
Their song 'Fulham Court' is just wonderful. A tribute to the people of a West London council estate that had just been forgotten by the local authorities and left to rot each year until local elections came round. Musically and lyrically beautiful.
Have posted both tunes here.
Anyone remember them? I'm sure a few late 40s/early 50s posters must have seen them on a support bill somewhere at some time.

The leaves they bejewel the ground
they know the art of dying
they leave with joy their glad gold hearts
In the scarlet shadows lying.
they know the art of dying
they leave with joy their glad gold hearts
In the scarlet shadows lying.
