January transfer rumours and squad discussion

Post by Cjay »

Bit early maybe.

But the rumours keep coming thick and fast so thought they should have somewhere to go :shirt: :shirt:

Aapo Halme-young Finnish Cb we were linked with before, reported to be again. May be something in this as apparently the Saiz and Alioski rumours were reported in Finland very early on.

Danny Ings rumours creeping up but recently played down, surprised if this has any legs.

Yosuke Ideguchi, young Japan starlet rumours been around for a while.

Ings is too good to be sitting around doing nothing would be a tremendous signing if he came back the same player as before but there must be doubts about his firness. Worth a loan deal imo

Cod and Barricuda I’d prefer we went for a Great White and a Sailfish

Mimoun Mahi linked
Dutch born Moroccan winger. Great form in Holland for Fc Groningen.
27 goals in 76 games.
Typically operates from the left, right footed but as the clip shows has a decent left foot as well.
One of those rumours you hope pays off, Pablos successor perhaps?

Scott Malone to Leeds United: Huddersfield left-back wanted at Elland Road in January

At last we have seen the light as we look to sign a proper left-back

A top CB & LB should have been priorities in the summer

An admission by TC, Orta et al that they missed a trick in not replacing Taylor? Also suggests, if true, that CBJ's loan will be cut short. As for a CB in the summer; perhaps if Pennington cuts it this season, we'll look to buy him? Though that would be up to Everton, of course.

Haven't been that impressed with Pennington so far although he has had a difficult start with injuries.
Thought he was shaky at Bolton & woeful at Hillsborough, he hardly won a header v the Owls

To his credit he did quite well when he was thrown in the lions den at Cardiff

We needed more than a young lad to fill Bartley's boots imo !

:shirt: Read yesterday Radz is planning to spend big in January . Great news :shirt:

But in the same article it said "feel they need more attacking talent" :(

While that Dutch guy would be a great signing (apparently).

If we dont sign a cb and a lb then questions should be asked of Victor Orta and TC

Tend to agree - I like much of what they have done so far but they do seem to have blind spots in their thinking on our defence.

The only players I'd look to sign are players who are almost certainly going to be in the starting line-up. Depth signings are not needed.

I don't disagree that we need a dedicated LB and also potentially a CB (we have the numbers here but seemingly not the quality) but we lost around £15m of talent in these positions between Bartley and Taylor and in the early part of the season looked like we weren't really missing them.

For me what has changed is how the MF have performed, O'Kane, Phillips, Alioski, Hernandez all went off like a house on fire, chasing down the opposition and frightening them to death when we had the ball. All this takes a load of pressure off the back 4, gives them time to get their shape and get properly organised.

If the MF don't do this, as they haven't in recent weeks, and don't close down and squander possession the defence are constantly trying to break up play and pick up runners getting pulled all over the place, eventually something will give and they will look like they were out of position and at fault....for me we still have no real MF general who holds the whole show together, O'Kane has done it in patches, Klich hasn't really had a look in and neither has Vieira - Phillips I quite like but looks a better player when more experienced players around him do well, he's not going to pull a team through so yes I reckon we need a LB but a real top drawer stand out MF player for me would do wonders for the whole team - yes we have lots of them but nobody is really standout, you could pretty much make a case for picking any one of our MF players week by week, only Saiz is a must start and he's more of an attacker.

With the creative players we have we have goals in this team just need to provide a platform on which they can operate.

Id agree with this.

In our best performances we had especially the front 4 all pressing the opponents back line, they wanted to pass out as most do, but couldn't because of the press. This forced them to go long and battle for 2nd balls. Our cms were battling for the 2nd ball and pressing, if we won it we broke with pace, if we lost it the midfield was pressing to win it back and the back 4 was allowed to maintain its shape.

For whatever reason now none of this is happening, we arent pressing like we were and our midfield isnt winning second balls, pulling defenders out of position and there the problems begin.

For me the front 4 need to go back to what they were doing, pressing as a unit not as individuals, then the midfield 2 need to be the ones after the 2nd balls. Cbs challenge for the high kicks but then they get back into position, the 2 in front of them drop back and try and win the ball back with help from the wide players, which was what was happening before.

On the midfield general point, still believe thats Klich, if you go back and watch the highlights of his Burnley performance he really was everywhere. When passing it out from the back, he made an option, when under pressure, he was making tackles and interceptions and starting us on our way forward. He was protecting the back four the difference between him that day and Phillips and O'Kane recently is not only was he protecting the back four but he was positive, when he picked the ball up of the back 4 he looked forward, not back to them, so they wernt condtantly under pressure.

Don't disagree on Klich we just haven't seen enough of him to date to make a solid judgement, he's done it at a good level and should fit the bill - may be time for a change this weekend?
