Emile Heskey

Post by Cjay »

21 seasons played during his career.

Fa Cup, Uefa Cup and League Cup winner.

60 plus caps for England.

But, only reached double figures goal wise 6 times in his career and only 4 seasons in the league. Career goal record is roughly 1 in 5.

However, former teammates praise him for his pace, power, workrate and unselfish attitude.

As a striker he had all the natural gifts, height, build, pace, and he was exceptionally hard working.

And i see Heskey in our own Caleb Ekuban :-D

The lay off to Saiz last game, the unselfish running wide to pull Samba about, the intelligence to get in goalscoring positions only to see an interception stop him receiving the ball last second.

He runs with the ball, he battles for it, he has a really good touch and awareness of where his teammates are.

Is he destined to be viewed similarly to Emile Heskey? If goals dont come, unappreciated by the fans but beloved by his team?.

Heskey was pretty quick for such a big lad in his Leicester days, Ekuban probably quicker though.

Sometimes you don't need a pure goal scorer up top. Niall Quinn was another top forward player. I'm very happy we have Ekuban, looks much better than Lassoga and goals will come

He is the first striker since Jermaine Beckford with genuine pace.

Chris Wood, Luciano Becchio, Ross McCormack, Kemar Roofe, Souly Doukara etc, none of them were or are especially quick.

Therefore any balls over the top had to be perfect, with Ekuban, such is his pace, you could lob it in behind the defence and theres a good chance he will get there first.

Such a nice option to have, if the pretty passing isnt working, or if we are under real pressure, wait for a gap to open up and give Ekuban something to chase.

Turn the opposition around, get up the pitch, and actually, Ekuban has shown he is able to get past people, he may even be able to make something on his own.
