Simon Grayson.....

Post by 1964white »

Is the new Bradford City following the dismissal of Stuart McCall

Larry achieved promotions from League 1 to the Championship at Blackpool, Leeds Huddersfield & Preston, this level is certainly his forte so don't rule out a 5th promotion with the Bantams

Failed at Sunderland, Grayson gives the impression he is a nearly manager at Championship level but generally seems to do quite well in the 2nd tier

There's no reason for that though, it's not that big a step up. He should enjoy a modicum of success in the Champ. He's better than say BMC who's gained a promotion from this division.

Wish him luck at Bradford

We did have a very good season the first season we were back. That was probably the strongest team we've had since we were relegated though.

Had Beckford hung around it would have been even better ....with hindsight poor decision from him and maybe us. But I guess he got to play in the prem for 1 year

I don't blame him for his decision, nor ours for letting him go - as you say hindsight has shown that it was probably the wrong decision by both parties.

It's strange how some players seem to perform so well at one club but never reproduce that form elsewhere.

Grayson should never have left Preston , He had a good strong team there and Sunderland were in free fall . wish him well but don't think he will ever get a job at a big club again ,

Yes Beckford played a crucial part to our promotion from L1 & as you say Faaip had Jermaine stayed at Leeds we'd probably had achieved another play-off place as we just missed out without him, that Beckford/Becchio partnership was phenomenal

And that is what people who slag SG off fail to mention is that we achieved 7th place in our first season back in the championship despite having lost Beckford and having our outstanding centreback, and previous season's player of the year, Kisnorbo out injured all year. We also still had a player, Hughes, masquerading as a left back so in reality a bit like how this season TC had to cope without Wood, Bartley and having to have Berardi play left back.

Given adequate replacements both SG and TC might well have got us into the playoffs.

Expert and getting teams promoted from League One. Wish him luck with Bradford.

Loved the football we played under him, exciting stuff, best team we've had for ages.

League One Larry, one of the worst managers of all time, but he gets away with it at that level.

Yes teams can defend badly & get away with it in League 1 & 2 Clive

I always felt we needed three or four to win under Grayson

no idea why he gets so much bad rep. got us promoted and got sacked when we were 10th and three points off the playoffs in the championship. i'd take him back here without a doubt

did a great job at preston too on very little resources

Completely agree. Let's look at the starting defence from our promotion season. GK Higgs - free transfer, LB Hughes - converted midfielder, RB Crowe - free transfer, CB Kisnorbo - free transfer, CB Naylor - free transfer.

So SG cobbled together a defence from free transfers and a midfielder. Yet for half a season they were fantastic, hardly conceding any goals. Sadly though injuries started to take their toll. Was SG given any money to replace them? Yeah £200k here and there to buy a reckless Alex Bruce, who Ipswich fans were glad to see the back off and Leigh Bromby, a journeyman pro. Yet he was supposed to work miracles.

Yet whenever we sack a manager it seems more people would welcome Gary McAllister back rather than SG. Yet GMc was truly abysmal in charge of us and we were sinking like a stone before he was sacked and SG came in.

Yes , it was a good side . A bit poor on defensive side but loads of options for goals . Maybe Beckford might have made a difference of a few points - never know . didn't think he did that well really in the Prem , but looking at current stats , Chris Wood hasn't set the league alight with Burnley- 4 goals in 15 games . He could well have made a big difference this season at Leeds (never know now )but maybe the Prem is a step too far . Possibly better business for Leeds at £15m than Burnley , but time will tell .
Again good luck to Wood , he has his chance like Beckford - you can't blame these players - chance of a lifetime and anyone ambitious would want to play at top level . Maybe O'FuckingKane could make a step up to League two quality soon :)
