Re: The Music Discussion Thread - Your favourite Clash albums ?
Clash: London Calling. One of the most important albums in rock history.
Elton John: His early stuff is my favorite. Captain Fantastic, Madman, and Tumbleweed Connection are all wonderful.
But if you haven't heard it (it's pretty obscure), his live album "11/17/70" is great. His piano playing is out of this world.

I have all of Elton's early albums apart from his debut 'Empty Sky'. His 2nd album release 'Elton John' is my ultimate favourite, some beautiful piano & from the same period of his live set '11/17/70' which is now on my purchase list

Right guys, I don't often stick my beak in here. Please listen to this clip.
A Leeds band who in my opinion just don't get the recognition they deserve.

In all honesty BB I've never heard of The Cut, but I think the track on your link is pretty goodbecchio bear wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 7:52 pm Right guys, I don't often stick my beak in here. Please listen to this clip.

On that one song alone I prefer them to the Kaiser Chiefs
Re: The Music Discussion Thread - Your favourite Clash albums ?
Nice, could be an opening tune on one of their live sets
I have A Perfect Circle album which you recommended but i can't remember the title, their songs are much lighter than the Tool stuff
Re: The Music Discussion Thread - Your favourite Velvet Undeground albums ?
Velvet Underground recorded four cracking albums between 1967 & 1970
Unsure which one is my favourite, all four are beauties
Playlist today - Lou at his best
Velvet Underground & Nico
White Light/White Heat
Velvet Underground
Loaded
plus an outtakes album 'Another View' from 1986
Chart success or lack of
Unbelievably the Velvets never had any chart success, their debut just missed out on the top 40 in the UK & Reed's band didn't even make the top 100 in the USA
I'd imagine their studio albums have sold more copies over the last five decades than they mustered at the time of there release

I only own two Velvets albums - the Banana, which everyone has, or at least should; and
1969: The Velvet Underground Live - ….Lou Reed's intro for which, in the lead into the opening track Waiting for The Man, is really atmospheric - you can just imagine a small, intimate venue filled with clouds of illicit drug smoke.
Stand-out track is a great version of 'Lisa Says'

Meant to say though, that I prefer Transformer.....a classic album !!
Re: The Music Discussion Thread - Your favourite Velvet Undeground albums ?
We've had this argument many times on here - but I really don't get The Clash. I was bullied into getting the London Calling album by a former poster, and tbh it just leaves me cold.
Elton - I had the privilege of seeing him live before he became famous, and he was absolutely excellent. Always meant to get his debut album, but never did. The only album I have of his was Madman, which always stands the test of time. The TV documentary of him, where he came across as a whining diva, put me off him for life.
Velvets - Did some decent stuff without being stand out. I have the Banana album, but it only plays when on shuffle. I agree with Muppet that Reed's solo stuff is much more enjoyable.

Re: The Music Discussion Thread - Your favourite Velvet Undeground albums ?
I can understand where you are coming from Gandi as The Clash came late to me after plenty of persistent listens. I still prefer their live stuff & their triple album Sandinista to London Calling
Buy the Elton John self-titled album as it is a gem, you won't regret the purchaseGandalf wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 9:09 am Elton - I had the privilege of seeing him live before he became famous, and he was absolutely excellent. Only £6 new from Amazon, cheaper second-hand of course

Playing Transformer now
'Vicious
You hit me with a flower
You do it every hour
Oh, baby, you're so vicious
Vicious
You want me to hit you with a stick
But all I've got is a guitar pick
Huh, baby, you're so vicious'
Re: The Music Discussion Thread - Your favourite Velvets/Lou Reed albums ?
Lou Reed playlist over the Bank Holiday weekend
I still don't know what is my favourite Reed album
One of these four :
1972 - Transformer
1973 - Berlin
1989 - New York
1990 - Songs For Drella (with John Cale)
others on my playlist
Rock 'n' Roll Animal
Lou Reed
Live in New York 1972 (bootleg)
Live in Amsterdam 1992 (bootleg)
Chart stats
Two top 10 albums for Reed as a solo artist, unbelievably Transformer only reached No.13. Lou's highest chart albums were a 90's release 'Magic & Loss' at No.6 & his 1973 album 'Berlin'. New York was his only other top 20 album in the UK.
Reed's Highest placed single was 'Walk On The Wild Side' in 1972 reaching No.10 in the UK until the release of the Children In Need charity song 'Perfect Day' recorded with many major artists in 1997 giving Lou his only No.1 thirty five years after his solo career began

transformer worked better as a frisbee and lost a chunk when the shotgun pellets hit it
Songs for Drella fitted in the clay pidgeon machine better and went a greater distance... However, when the shotgun pellets hit it, it was oblitterated...
So on pure destructive power..... Drella gets my vote....
as for the content all utter drivel...
