Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 8th Oct)
Afternoon All,
Brentford are a decent side, particularly on the counter attack and I think they will pick up a good number of points away from home.
They're a bit like us in that they move the ball quickly and press high up the field which was indicated by their goal.
I actually predicted a 1-1 draw and who our goal scorer would be!
The referee had an absolute mare with some of his decisions but he only had a split second to make the call with the penalty which ultimately was the wrong one.
Even the two commentators initially said it was a penalty until they saw several replays when it became apparent that Watkins was already on his way down before he collided with BPF.
I had no idea it was that long since we were awarded a penalty - that's incredible!
It does seem that we have more than our fair share of bad luck, but most of that has been caused by things off the field rather than on it.
We do seem to have an injury curse at the moment though.
Dean Smith is certainly a little bit biased in his assessment of the game. Yes they had chances but so did we and we almost won it right at the death if only Baker had got a bit more on it. So to me, a draw was a fair result.
Mr Canos will be extremely lucky if he gets away with the head butt unpunished. The idiot coach who wouldn't give the ball back should be punished also because if he had just given it straight back none of what followed would have happened. Can you imagine if someone like Joey Barton had done the head butt? There would have been uproar and it would have been all over the papers.
Personally I think Jack Clarke should remain in the senior 18 even after the return of the injured players.
He looks full of confidence and I think we have a star in the making. Jack Harrison is on borrowed time.
Yes I do feel sorry for Tom Pearce, he must be wondering what he's got to do to get a game.
Even though he's very much part of the squad his heart must of sunk a little in the summer when we signed Douglas.
He did well last season and even got himself a goal so when Douglas got injured he must have thought he was in with a chance.
His time will come, maybe the loan option in January is something the club will consider?

Penalty
First reaction was it was one, the replays showed that Watkins fell into BPF, some are saying he was trying to avoid contact because he has recently had a toe injury, but imo he could have jumped a hell of a lot higher, he wasnt trying to avoid anything, he was making sure contact happened. I do wonder if the shot had been better with no defenders closing in would he have reacted how he did, doubt it. He has form for this sort of thing, was booked for simulation before. But i blame Liam Cooper, it was a situation of his making in the 1st place.
Dean Smith
I like him and dont blame him for what he said, he is Brentford manager and should talk them up, i dont think they deserved to win and neither did we.
Canos
You cant push your head towards an opponent no matter how softly, he should be banned if the law is followed.
Clarke and Harrison
Bit disappointed with Harrison, he has flattered to deceive a bit and hasnt really taken his opportunity with both hands. Reports do range on his wages from £30k to £50k a week. While that sounds daft to us to Manchester City for a player they paid £5mil for its probably about right.
Jack Clarke shone brightly, on the right, if there is any justice he will play vs Blackburn in some form.
We need to show him he has a real chance of breaking through or we will lose him. Lot has been made about Harrison being a Manchester City player. Mustn't forget Jack Clarke is only not a Manchester City player because he choose to stay with us because he felt he would get more of a chance. Bielsa cant let his friendship with Pep cloud his judgement on this.
Jack Clarke deserves more chances, Harrison has had some, not really taken them, Clarke deserves the same opportunity.
Pearce
Its pecking order and it worries me as ive said before, Dallas was even injured and Bielsa still picked him, thats not right.
Alioski however was so good as a wing back Pearce cant complain much if Ali is picked ahead of him.
