The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 9th Nov)
Good Morning Everyone
Patrick Bamford is set to return early from his cruciate knee ligament injury sustained in September.
The Yorkshire Evening Post are claiming that our Summer marquee signing is aiming to be fully fit and back in contention to play by “the end of the year, if not before”.
Can Bamford and Roofe play together?
Interesting stats of the Championship so far.

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 9th Nov)
Hi EB
Stats pfffft
I don't know if Bamford and Roofe can work together, but I don't think that Bielsa will play the two of them together anyway. Maybe if we need goals late in a game, but I think Bielsa will continue to play with one man up front.

Again, agree with above.
Most of those stats are very open to interpretation, like stats are generally.
I would imagine Reading topped the passing stat under Stam but 80% of those would have been across the back line. Only numbers that really count are points

I meant to give a similar example.
A number of years back, my team on the A-League - Sydney FC - were struggling and playing poorly. A journalist - obviously a fan or our coach - pointed out a stat about our passing accuracy, claiming that this proved what a 'good passing team' we were. But if you watched us play, almost invariably you'd see the back four and deep lying midfielders passing the ball amongst themselves a few times before hoofing the ball upfield, where sometimes we held on to possession and other times we didn't. All those little sideways passes made the stats look good though.

Good morning Matt & everyone
Bielsa will stick to one striker up top
Will be a massive asset to have Bamford on the bench once he's fit again

I ignored stats from years ago, when we played Middlesbrough, the next day the Sunday paper used the opta data stats in it's report, they had Batty as making 4 tackles, he made that many in the first 5 minutes.
That was the game Paul Ince found out what a real hard man was, snarling at the camara doesn't make you hard, pulling out of tackles with Batty after the first 2, showed he was all hype.
Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 9th Nov)
They stats do show the teams who try to play football in the correct way
Notice Birmingham & Blackburn who beat us don't feature high in those stats, Boro' tend to grind out 0-0 draws as the smoggies bore the championship to death

Stats are fine if they're done properly ...they currently aren't

Statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamppost: for support, not illumination.
