o/t Amazing end to a football match in Oz

Post by HarryofOz » Sat Mar 16, 2019 8:43 am

In this evening's A-league fixture between Central Coast and Newcastle (a local derby), bottom-of-table Central Coast (with just one win all season) took a 3-0 lead in the 70th minute.

By the 80th, Newcastle had pulled two goals back.

Then deep into five minutes of injury time, Newcastle were awarded a penalty. To add to the tension, it went to VAR but the decision was upheld.

The keeper saved the penalty blocking the ball away, only for Newcastle to put it in the back of the net from the rebound.

But wait, there's more...

That too, went to the VAR and it showed the the scorer (and others) had encroached into the box before the penalty was taken.

Ref rules that the penalty must be retaken.

Same penalty taker, goes the same way, so does the keeper who blocks the ball again...no-one to put in the rebound this time and Central Coast hold on to win just their second game of the season.
We're going up like there is no gravity!
