Weaknesses still apparent at LUFC

In football it is very easy to be fickle and get a little too carried away. There’s not a single fan out there who hasn’t thought come August ...can we go all the way? Can we sign a big name?

There’s nothing wrong with that in moderation; after all, we all need hope. For Leeds United fans, hope has been their only choice in the past ten years outside the top flight of English football.

Now under a new era, the club (currently 16/1 in the Paddy Power Championship outright betting odds) and fans can work together to make the changes required to get the Whites back to the big time once again! Saturday’s late winner at Brighton was a fitting tribute to the end of the Ken Bates era and the start of GFH’s first season in charge.

However, underneath the hysteria of the club’s new dawn, there’s still plenty to work on. Most fans will know the squad needs tweaking but it is important that the club stays grounded and makes the small steps needed to progress.

Wednesday’s performance against Chesterfield is nothing to get carried away by. After all, Leeds were favourites in the football betting odds pre-kick-off. But there are cracks, and if Leeds are to have an improved season they need to be filled. A lack of width will eventually cost United dear when the big boys come to town with a game plan. A distinct lack of depth will test the club when the fixtures pile up.

There’s a month to go and if Brian McDermott can add three quality players then there’s a platform to build from. For now it is great to see the fans smiling again, but you can’t help but feel that come December the moaners will be back.

GFH have done a great job so far, the question is whether or not they can give the club that one final push come September 2nd.
