Every fan has their favourite Leeds shirt, whether it was the shirt your favourite player wore in their heyday, a shirt we lifted a trophy wearing or one you used to run around the park in pretending to be Gary Speed. My personal favourite was the 1993-1995 Thiste Hotels shirt worn by the likes of Gordon Strachan, Gary McAllistair, Brian Dean and Noel Whelan. It wasn’t our best period, we didn’t win anything but it was my first season as a season ticket holder, call them my formative years as a Leeds United supporter and will always hold fond memories for me.
For many their favourite shirt will be from our glory years. The great Don Revie put us in white and we won league title and cups in all white kits with owl badges, LUFC script and smilies adorned on our chests. The 1995-1996 LUFC Script shirt harked back to the glory of our great 1972 FA Cup victory, although it was worn in a slightly less memorable cup final. It is still many peoples favourite though. The original Strongbow shirt from the Champions League days always puts up a good showing on match days.
The late eighties and early nineties gave us some of our best football and also best kits. In 1989-1990 we won the Second Division with players like Lee Chapman and Bobby Davison wearing all white Umbro and a Yorkshire rose badge. Next seasons kit was a classic, who can forget Vinnie Jones in Top Man? Then the great Championship winning Yorkshire Evening Post shirt which has made a comeback on the terraces in recent years in it's replica form.
