Garry Monk favourite to be next Leeds boss

It’s less than 24 hours since Steve Evans lost his job as Leeds United boss, but already owner Massimo Cellino seems to have his sights set on snapping up Garry Monk as the next Whites manager. Evans managed a 36 per cent win rate during his seven-month stint in the United dugout – a record deemed unacceptable by the unpredictable Italian. The 59-year-old has already sent six managers packing since his arrival at Elland Road in 2014, but former Swansea boss Monk is still likely to be tempted by the chance to manage the Yorkshire giants.

It’s 5/4 that the 37-year-old is the next man installed at Elland Road, with Karl Robinson the 7/1 second-favourite to be prized away from MK Dons, and Michael Appleton (8/1) set to exit newly-promoted Oxford United for the three-time English champions. There are a host of other interesting outsiders, though few will know the club as well as Simon Grayson. The current Preston North End boss was at the Leeds helm from 2008-2012, securing promotion from League One along the way. And the 16/1 for him to return could well tumble if Monk doesn’t get the job.

Meanwhile, David Wagner (20/1) would surely be the most controversial appointment of those in the running, with the well-respected coach currently at the helm of the Whites’ West Yorkshire rlvals Huddersfield Town. A Ladbrokes spokesperson said:
Cellino appears to have acted very quickly, with Monk already set to be the next man in the door. However, if talks with the ex-Swansea gaffer fall through, odds will quickly tumble on contenders like Robinson and Grayson.
