Three World Cup stars Leeds could target

After again missing out on a spot in the play-offs this past Championship campaign, and subsequently furthering their long-standing stay below the dizzy heights of the Premier League, Leeds United are expected to strengthen this summer.
In the summer transfer window, the Yorkshire club are reportedly set to splash the cash in a bid to finally boost their chances of making a welcome return to the top-flight of English football after the 2019/20 season.
Leeds could only manage to finish in the bottom half of the table last term, having to settle for a highly disappointing 13th position, despite a bright start to proceedings in the second tier.
In light of that less-than-promising finish, Leeds are expected to delve into the market for some fresh faces in their squad. With the 2018 World Cup in Russia soon kicking off, there's plenty of potential new arrivals on show.
So here are three stars of the upcoming World Cup on Russian soil that Leeds could swoop for this summer to bolster their ranks.
Bryan Oviedo (Costa Rica)
Leeds are in need of a left back and experienced Sunderland wideman Bryan Oviedo could potentially be the man to fill up that slot on the left side of defence.
Following the Black Cats' relegation to the third tier of English football last season, the Costa Rica international is one of many stars who will likely depart Wearside in the coming months. So why not a move to Elland Road?
The now 28-year-old will hope to enjoy some success in the group stages with his nation this summer, and Costa Rica are regarded as promising 7/2 outsiders in the 2018 World Cup betting predictions to come out on top against Serbia in their tournament opener on June 17th.
Jackson Irvine (Australia)
Next up is a goalscoring midfielder in the form of Australia international Jackson Irvine, who faced a close call to a daunting drop down divisions last term with Hull City.
He was a key aspect of the Tigers narrowly avoiding relegation and he will now be seeking ventures new after attracting the eye of some Premier League clubs, if reports are to be believed.
Leeds would do extremely well to convince the Australia midfielder, now only 25 years of age, to remain in the Championship and sign on at Elland Road.
Kamil Grosicki (Poland)
Another experienced international heading for the World Cup next, Poland winger Kamil Grosicki is another possible option for the Lilly Whites this summer.
The former Rennes wideman was another Hull City star who endured a frustrating campaign with the club and is searching for a new opportunity elsewhere.
That could come in the form of a switch to Leeds, who are in need of an attacking boost in their wide areas for the new campaign. His possible arrival would see the side's options of Hadi Sacko and Pawel Cibicki bolstered, with his experience being a potentially beneficial factor for the Yorkshire outfit.
