Never say die attitude could see us promoted

Cutting edge is going to be key to winning the Championship this season. For all Leeds United’s possession and chances the goals have not been coming quite so freely recently, though only twice this season in the League have Leeds failed to get on the scoresheet. In contrast Norwich only had 47% possession in Sundays East Anglian derby and scored from all three of their shots on target. The Canaries win means for the first time in while there is some daylight between Leeds and top spot. With the fixtures the way they are over the next couple of months this could be the time Norwich start to pull away.

But all is not lost for Leeds United, for all the talk of ‘Bielsa burnout’ we have a team who fight to end, even to the hundred and first minute in fact. Leeds will be disappointed Norwich did not trip up against their local rivals on Sunday but in truth the important moments of this weekend came at 9:39pm on Friday evening and 2:58pm on Saturday afternoon. Aston Villa were three nil down against Leeds United’s promotion rivals Sheffield United entering the final ten minutes of the game on Friday night only to score three goals securing the draw in the ninety fourth minute.

Likewise Leeds secured an important point in the dying minutes of their game against Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon. Following the unfortunate medial emergency involving Jack Clarke, who seems to be doing better now fortunately, Leeds entered the thirteen minutes of injury time facing defeat only for Kalvin Phillips to pop up in eleventh of those added minutes to secure a point for the Whites. With the three point lead over Sheffield United retained and Norwich only moving two points ahead what could have been a terrible weekend doesn’t seem too bad after all.

Despite recent result Leeds are favourites to get back to winning ways on Wednesday night at Elland Road. Leeds are 5/7 to beat Swansea with BetUK. The never say die attitude shown in such performances as Villa, Blackburn and Middlesbrough means you can never write this team off. We will need to be more clinical to have a chance at winning the league but the mentality never to give up could yet see us promoted.
