Klich, FFP, Phillips and Captain Cooper

Good Morning Everyone, here is Monday 15th July's #LUFC Breakfast Debate.

Could Klich be joining Bailey Peacock Farrell at Turf Moor?

According to The Sun, Burnley are planning a double swoop for BPF and Mateusz Klich. We heard about the interest in the young Northern Ireland goalkeeper last week; however it is believed the the Clarets are in need of a goal scoring midfielder! Although Klich only has a year left on his three year contract, Leeds have an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months. The Polish international played 50 games last season, scoring 10 goals and nine assists.

Is Klich instrumental to Bielsa's plans? If you were to sell the 29 year old, what fee would you ask for?

Wendies exploit FFP loophole

Sheffield Wednesday have sold Hillsborough Stadium to a third party controlled by their owner Dejphon Chansiri in order to avoid FFP! They become the third club to do so, Villa and Derby being the other two. According to their accounts, the sale of their ground for circa 60m produced a profit of £38.1million. Without the sale, Wednesday would have reported a £35.5m loss, placing them in big trouble with the Football League.

What would have happened if Leeds had shown such a blatant disregard towards FFP? Have these three teams broken any rules?

If not, neither had Leeds regarding Spygate. It didn't stop the football authorities from throwing the book at them!

Phillips contract talks update

Tottenham are hovering above LS11 in the hope that talks break down between Kalvin Phillips and senior officials regarding a contract extension. The Leeds starlet's contract is due to end next Summer, and the club is keen to extend that deal as far as they can. Although Leeds have slapped a 30m price tag on the 23 year old, Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy believes he'll have leverage if talks collapse. A rumour around Elland Road is that Phillip is agreeable to a new two year deal which he can break if Leeds do not get promoted next season. Thoughts?

Is Cooper the right man to wear the Captains armband?

Its fair to say that Cooper has his best season last term, but during the second half of the season when the squad needed to stand up and be counted, many fans believe Leeds bottled it! Whilst this cannot be solely blamed on the Captain, we all though that there is always a mistake in Cooper which the social media boo boys will exploit.

If Cooper strong both as a player and a Captain to guide us to the Premiership?

Klich had a great season but always seemed like he didn't quite fit into any specific role in the Bielsa model, a case of Bielsa making do with what he had rather than having players that fitted into certain positions better. Now where Klich would fit better in Bielsa's system I don't know but I would definitely see Bielsa keeping him in the starting line-up. Because of his age and with him only having a year on his contract his transfer value would be fairly minimal, certainly far less than we'd have to pay to replace him. As such I would definitely be looking to keep him and hoping to at least extend his contract by another year, preferably 2.

It is absolute shocking that clubs are getting away with this. Totally different if they were selling the stadium to some company not involved with the owners and actually bringing money into the club but this is definitely not the case it is simply a way for the owner to put more of their own money in which is what FFP is meant to stop happening. Considering we were fined due to breaking moral codes then these clubs are at the very least doing that too. If it was Leeds they would throw the book at us.

Could well be the case as KP will want to play premiership football. I don't see any harm in it if it means that he will sign the contract.

Is Cooper strong both as a player and a Captain to guide us to the Premiership?

Cooper was arguably our most consistent player last season, it was just unfortunate that his errors came in our 2 biggest matches. So was it coincidence that the errors came in the big pressure games or does he have a problem in the big games? Worth considering that in both those matches it was a total of 3 errors rather than either performance being error strewn. Whilst PJ was the better defender when he played well Cooper was probably the steadier of the 2 in that he would probably get 7s most weeks whereas PJ would be 6s or 9s. A steady level of performance is crucial, especially from a captain. Whilst I was quick to lambast Cooper for his mistakes it is important to actually look at the season as a whole and if Cooper can repeat that level this season then he will have had a good season, and hopefully if he makes a couple of mistakes they will come when we are 4-0 up with a minute to go in games.

The players seem to like him as captain. It wasn't Cooper shouting at BPF during matches for example. The players voted for him as captain under TC and also under MB, both times where he wasn't guaranteed to be a first team starter.

Describing the attack at the time, he said: 'They had these long knives and started shouting about Allah. Then it was, "Islam, Islam, Islam".

'I took a few steps towards them and said, "f*** you, I'm Millwall'. So they started attacking me.'

January 2018: He gets a suspended sentence for racially aggravated common assault and religiously aggravated harassment over the protest and MPs rants.

January 2019: He is given a community order after 240g of amphetamine is found at his caravan

March 2019: He is taken in custody for breaching a restraining order he was given after moving in with his mother.

April 2019: He again avoids jail on a suspended sentence for breaching the restraining order.

The Sun today: 'I just want to re-build my life and had hoped some compensation might get me back on my feet.

'I'm gutted to have been rejected. But despite everything, I’d not hesitate in doing the same thing again.'

Whereas you would have thought most of, if not all of the other, victims were simply innocent bystanders caught up in it through no fault of their own it would appear this guy brought his attack upon himself. It doesn't sound like he was actively trying to stop them attacking other people just that he thought he'd shout at them, look brave, and that they wouldn't go after him. Probably the sort of person that usually shouts abuse when in a crowd or thinks that he can shout abuse cos he looks big and hard. I wonder if he was then running away or running towards them when they attacked him?

Afternoon all.

Hope we dont allow anyone to leave now, Klich moving after the season he had would be a blow.

Captaincy is a tricky one, it may be upsetting for some to change but our on field discipline is problematic at times. Would Pablo, Douglas, or Dallas have something to offer and allow Coop and KP to focus on their job?

Ffp isnt working, I thought I read that the sell the ground loophole has been filled? Scrap it and allow those who can finance their clubs to do so.

FFP is a joke, a paper tiger with no teeth

Phillips will sign his contract extension this week

No issue with Cooper as captain, though I'd happily see Klich wear the armband

I'm no lawyer, but if you set out to deceive, than that is a fraudulent act. The Wendies, Derby and Villa should receive 5m fines for dishonesty.
