Jansson not to be replaced, Sawyers bid upped and Leeds lose to Saudi's

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 23rd July, and here are the Leeds Utd headlines

Jansson not to be replaced

Director of Football Victor Orta has suggested that Leeds do not need another centre back to replace Jansson:- “We had a plan at the start of pre-season in terms of ins and outs. Now, more or less, we are 90 per cent covered in the plan we have.”

This is backed up by Phil Hay who offered the following comments :-
The Whites currently have six defenders on their books; Ayling, Cooper, Berardi, White, Douglas and Davis. We also have Shackleton, Dallas and Alioski who make more than adequate wing backs. If Leeds defence was not strong enough last season with Jansson in it (who Bielsa described as his player of the season last May) why would Bielsa choose not to strengthen?

Could Romaine Sawyers be the final piece of Bielsa's jigsaw

Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers is still very much on Bielsa's radar. The Leeds Manager is a long term admirer of the 27 year old playmaker. He has been also attracted the interest of Scottish Champions Celtic. It is understood that Leeds have recently upped their offer for the Saint Kitts International! Bearing in mind Bielsa's long term admiration for this player, why wasn't a deal struck with the Bee's when we (under) sold Jansson to them?

Leeds outplayed by Saudi's

A Leeds Utd XI were soundly beaten by Saudi outfit Al Ittihad in a behind closed doors game at Thorp Arch yesterday. The makeshift XI mainly made up of reserves lost 4-2 against the Saudi Premier League team.

Probably the best fish & chips we've devoured & certainly great value at the Royal fisheries. F&C with mushy peas & a pot of tartar sauce & a slice of brown bread plus a pot of tea for £9.50 each.

We love Robin Hoods Bay, actually stayed a weekend for my 50th in the hotel before the trek down the hill to the beach
I'm glad you had a great day out. Never stayed in the Victoria, but often go there for breakfast.

Looking at the highlights, they looked as tired as the lot who faced the Scum. Seemed to be more a beasting than a serious game, White in particular looked pushed very hard against a fresh front line which would explain why he seemed pretty out of it. Give them some recovery time now and those lads' fitness will be through the roof, more so even than last season.

Always the way with Leeds fans. Likely this match was arranged very late and the players had probably already had training sessions all day and were probably knackered. All friendlies are about is helping to make sure our team is ready for the Bristol City match, lose every friendly game 4-0 but then beat Bristol and it becomes a good pre-season, win every friendly but then lose to Bristol and it was a sh*t pre-season.

In Bielsa's eyes they are though and ultimately that is the only thing that matters. I doubt any of us on here see Berardi as a centreback, or the others, but Bielsa does and he knows what is needed to get the best out of the system that he arguably invented. He has done all the research into the rewards versus the risks in playing 'non' centrebacks in the centreback positions. We cannot support Bielsa and then question his decisions over how to make his system better. We can argue that he should have made this substitution or that etc but we have to allow him to set the team out the way he wants especially given what he did last season in transforming a very average team into a team that played great football, and he did that whilst barely changing the starting team from the season before. Ultimately it fell short but he is the one to work out what went wrong and how to fix it and if he sees PJ as a weak link then so be it. The team that started the season by blitzing Derby and Stoke had Berardi and Cooper at centreback, that was the centreback pairing Bielsa wanted and but for Berardi's injury it would have been the pairing all season.
