Stoke City v Leeds Utd

Saturday 24th August 2019 3.00pm | Bet 365 Stadium

Leeds make the hour and a half journey down to the 365 Stadium on Saturday hoping to keep their unbeaten run going, and collecting another three points in the process.

Leeds remain top of the Championship with ten points from a possible twelve. They are joined by Swansea who have one less goal. The play off places are made up of Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and West Brom.

Bielsa has another selection dilemma having seen Costa and Nketiah come off the bench and make an instant impact. The gaffer himself admitted after the Brentford game that he may have to change his formation to make way for the young Gunner.

Leeds have injury doubts at wing back. Douglas is sidelined having picked up a knocks last weekend. Alioski will once again deputise, as he did in midweek. Dallas picked up an thigh injury and Cooper an ankle injury during the 1-0 win over the bees, and with Ayling already on the treatment table, Bielsa may call on Shackleton and Berardi.

Stoke have had a terrible start to the season having picked up only a solitary point (at home v Derby) during their opening four games leaving them last. They lost at Charlton and Preston and at home against QPR.

Stoke, and England keeper Jack Butland has endured a torrid time between the sticks having made some glaring mistakes in recent games. Will Leeds be able to capitalise?

In meetings between Stoke City and Leeds United at Stoke, there has not been a goalless draw in the last 25 games in all competitions since a 0-0 stalemate in October 1966.

Leeds United Starting XI:
Casilla, Dallas, Berardi, White, Alioski, Phillips, Klich, Forshaw, Hernandez, Harrison, Bamford

Subs: Leeds Subs: Meslier, Struijk, Shackleton, McCalmont, Gotts, Costa, Nketiah

Superb from the lads. All in all, one of the best away days I have had. Been to Stoke a few times over the years, never known their crowd to be so sparse and also the fans who were there to be so quiet !!

A scintillating performance from Leeds basking in the sunshine before the game
I predicted a 0-3 victory with Bamford as one of my scorers
Also found five winners at York races
Homemade shepherd's pie on the patio when I arrive back home at 7.45pm :-D

Early doors I know but this Leeds team looks ready-made for the premiership on current form

Positives

We patiently bide our time as we burn't Stoke out ready for the kill.
First goal is so important, once we scored just before half-time we ran riot after the break.
Pablo's sublime pass for the first goal.
Pablo's involvement for both our other goals.
White immaculate display. If Ben banged his chest & played to the crowd, he'd be a cult hero by now.
Both wing-backs score.
Another goal for Bamford.
Had Costa's strike gone in it would have been the goal of the season after a move that must have totalled 10 to 20 passes with the Leeds fans giving a ole to every pass, memories of Southampton 1972.
Two important interceptions from Berardi.
Bielsa has done a job on Dallas & Forshaw, our two most improved players this season.
Every player played their part, a team performance.
Three goals for the third time (including the Salford game).
Clean sheet.
Defence only conceded two goals in six games.
Still unbeaten.
Three points.
Won without getting out of 3rd gear, we made it look so easy.
Our fans as always.

Negative

Only negative we should have scored six or more

I think it's touching on why I feel so much more confident that we won't collapse this season. Everything just seems tighter and more drilled. I think we're also seeing why Bielsa likes having a small squad, and is so parsimonious in his signings; he knows that, given time, he can train these levels of decision making and control into virtually anybody, and that eventually the whole squad will become so drilled that it operates as one.

There's a comment on the Stoke forum, that even if Bielsa makes wholesale changes for the cup game, it will make no difference, because the whole squad are effectively first team players.

Good piece and a mantra of mine and Harry's for years..Continuity, continuity, continuity.
