Leeds United Legend Jermaine Beckford called it a career at the end of August. The former Leeds United striker bagged 85 goals in 152 matches in all competitions for the club. Beckford had a number of great moments at Elland Road during his five-year stay at the club. Leeds United fans will remember the striker for all of his fantastic play, but this year’s squad is also making memorable moments with fans. Supporters can use the latest Bethard bonus code 2019 to bet on Leeds United during their EFL Championship season and wager on games all season long. Although Beckford had some great moments in a Leeds United shirt, these three instances truly stick out.

1. FA Cup winning goal versus Manchester United

Beckford achieved cult status during the 2009-10 season. He had already proven himself an exciting striker in League One with Leeds United, and now, he put himself on the football map with an FA Cup match-winning goal against old rivals Manchester United. The striker’s goal came against the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the third round of the competition. It knocked out gum-chomping Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, making it the first time a team managed by the Scot was eliminated in round three.

2. The man to seal promotion

It was a bittersweet moment for Beckford when he walked off the pitch against Bristol Rovers to end the 2009-10 season. The striker tallied the winning goal for Leeds United, sealing promotion in a dramatic match against the League One rivals.

Beckford would never play a minute for the Lilywhites in the Championship, however. His goalscoring record had attracted the attention of clubs from the Premier League. In the summer of 2010, Beckford joined Everton where he scored 10 goals 38 matches in all competitions the next season. Still, his promotion heroics live long around Elland Road.

3. Penalty versus Tottenham Hotspur

If playing Manchester United at Old Trafford wasn’t difficult enough, Leeds United were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur for the fourth round. Making things even worse was the match being played at White Hart Lane.

Unmoved, Beckford led Leeds United to London and on to a fourth-round replay. After falling behind thanks to a Peter Crouch first-half goal, Beckford scored just after the restart to put Leeds United on level terms. Spurs would again take the lead, this time through Roman Pavlyuchenko.

With the clock ticking down and Leeds United’s FA Cup hopes running out, Beckford won a penalty as Michael Dawson hacked him down in the 18-yard box. Beckford stepped up to the penalty spot and conjured up all of his nerves to slot the ball past Heurelho Gomes for a 2-2 draw. Unfortunately, Leeds United would lose the replay to Spurs 3-1, but Beckford’s legend status was secure.
