Is Emre Mor the answer to Leeds Prayers?

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 15th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Time running out for the Whites

Reports from St Marys claim that there is little to no chance of them parting with Che Adams in the January transfer window. This will come as a bitter blow for the Whites as their targets continue to dwindle. Eddie Nketiah has signed with Bristol City whilst it looks like Villa forward Jonathan Kodja is on his way to the City ground.

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Nketiah makes at Ashton Gate, and whether his goal contribution (when given an opportunity to prove himself) makes a difference to their season? Dwight Gayle's injury is not thought to be as serious as first thought, and the 29 year old is expected to resume training later this month.

It is believed that Leeds have turned to the Continent and are in negotiations with the agent of Celta de Vigo forward Emre Mor. The 22 year old Turkish Striker has been unable to establish himself on loan at Galatasaray having not found the back of the net in 10 appearances. He moved to Celta Vigo is the Summer of 2017 for 13m euros.

Poveda due at Elland Road tomorrow, Hay

According to Phil Hay, Leeds target Ian Poveda is due at Elland Road tomorrow to look around the club! The 19y year old is torn between a move to Italy, or West Yorkshire.

Hay believes that while it’s not 100%, Poveda should still sign for Leeds.

“They thought it was all lined up to go this week and it should still be, provided things go well when they meet,” Hay said. “But there is interest from Italy so you never say never.”

I expect that's exactly it, Weasel, but it's easier to blame the club when we don't get what we want.

The thing is that in seasons past it was easy to go out and buy/loan a player that was better than what we had, we were a mid table side and generally our season had already pretty much fizzled out by this stage. As such when players like Bamba or Forshaw came in they immediately looked better than the under performing players around them. Now though we are in the top 2 the league. We can't get a cast off from teams above us in the table to improve us as a midtable side. We can't really go out and buy a lower league striker and just chuck him in with nothing to lose like we could do in a season where we aren't realistically going to get promoted or relegated. As such we are looking for players that can improve the current side immediately so realistically then that means someone from the premiership that isn't playing but is still good enough to be an improvement to our squad, that doesn't leave a lot of players with presumably Adams being at the top of that short list. Presumably we talked to Southampton a few weeks back and they said we could have him but they didn't actually talk to their manager - it certainly comes accross that way. Other than that well who are the other premiership fringe players? Obviosuly we are being 'linked' with all of those the Billy Sharps, McGoldricks, Grays etc and other than that it is then the untested young players, the Nketiahs, Brewsters, Poveda etc - players with potential but hardly any experience of first team football at any level.

So the other option is foreign teams and most country's top leagues are probably not great so a lot of players in top flight football that wouldn't be as good as what we already have. That then means you have to look at top flight players in the likes of Italy, Spain & Germany so that is gonna be pricey not to mention the problems they might have adapting if we want them to make an immediate impact.

The list of available targets that can improve the side will not be long. Adams may well be top of the list by quite some distance. If the second best striker available from the premiership is Billy Sharp or McGoldrick then you can certainly understand why the club really only want to get Adams - it is alright saying they should have a back up lined up but if that back up is Sharp/McGoldrick would anyone really want us to switch target and then a week later see Adams go to one of our rivals?
