After months of speculation the FA have finally reached their verdict in relation to the alleged racist remarks made by the Kiko Casilla last September at Charlton. The FA has found Casilla guilty and he has been handed an eight game ban, fined £60,000 and ordered to attend a face-to-face education course. The independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons will be published on the week commencing Monday 2 March 2020. Casilla's suspension is a major blow for Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, and the Whites' promotion hopes. Casilla will now miss the games against; Hull, Huddersfield, Cardiff, Fulham, Luton, Blackburn, Stoke and Swansea. His ban will be completed in time for the visit of Barnsley to Elland Road in April. Casilla has two weeks from Monday to appeal, the FA has then has three weeks after that to reply, hearing cannot be until until week afterwards.

In a statement on their official website Leeds United said; “Leeds United acknowledges that Kiko Casilla has been found guilty of breaching FA Rule E3 during our Sky Bet Championship game with Charlton Athletic in September 2019. Casilla has been banned for 8 games following the verdict from the FA.”

“We would like to make it clear that we do not tolerate any form of discrimination within our football club and we are a leader in the fight against discrimination within our wider community. However, it is important to recognise that Kiko has always denied making any racist comment.”

“The FA panel have based their decision on the balance of probability rather than proving Kiko to be guilty beyond reasonable doubt, which we have always believed is the more appropriate burden of proof.”

With Casilla now banned, Illan Meslier is expected to be between the sticks for the next eight games starting with tomorrows visit to the KCOM Stadium. Leeds fans can feel secure in the knowledge Meslier is a safe pair of hands. He has already gained a reputation in the U23s side as a penalty saving expert but also impressed in his only first team outing against Arsenal. Talking to the press about Meslier before the Reading game Bielsa said; “We have this player, I am talking about Meslier, honestly for a long time I didn’t see a young player like him with resources like him.”

Nous avons foi en toi Illan!
