The Championship looks set for a likely return to action late in June. According to sources, England’s second division could re-start on the 20th of June with an early August end date in sight. Leeds are sitting pretty at the top of the table but are only one point ahead of rivals West Bromwich Albion. The Peacocks are aiming for a return to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years and have only nine fixtures standing in their way.

Will Leeds be crowned Champions?

Before the break in football Leeds were on a five-match unbeaten streak scoring nine goals without reply in that times. They knocked West Brom off the top-spot and were cut in price by most bookies to go and win the league. Out of the list of sports betting sites in the UK, the Whites were around the 2/1 mark before that streak, but went as short at 1/2. Bookies such as bet365 and Betfair were a couple of the online betting sites that made big cuts.

Leeds have nine teams to overcome before the season is decided, and with only one point separating the two it will likely go down to the wire. One thing is for sure though, if Leeds can win their remaining games – they will be crowned Champions. Let’s take a look at what games are in store for Leeds, and which stand out the most.

Leeds United 9 Remaining Fixtures

These are the nine remaining fixtures of the 2019/20 season for Leeds. It should be noted that there is no confirmed return, therefore the matches do yet have kick-off times or dates attached. Should the league re-start, this will likely be the order of the games.

  • Cardiff vs Leeds United
  • Leeds United vs Fulham
  • Leeds United vs Luton Town
  • Blackburn Rovers vs Leeds United
  • Leeds United vs Stoke
  • Swansea City vs Leeds United
  • Leeds United vs Barnsley
  • Derby vs Leeds United
  • Leeds United vs Charlton

Key Upcoming Fixture: Leeds vs Fulham

There’s never an easy game in the Championship, but a couple of the upcoming matches catch the eye. Leeds will host third-placed Fulham in the second match when/if games resume. The Cottagers ended Leeds 11-game unbeaten run back in December with a 2-1 victory and have the league’s top scorer in Aleksandr Mitrovic (26). The Serbian International is a real danger man and was the player who opened the scoring in that defeat and will be a real threat to the Leeds goal.

West Brom also have to meet Fulham before the season ends, meaning these matches could make all the difference come the end of the season.

Key Upcoming Fixture: Derby vs Leeds

The penultimate fixture of the season see Leeds make the short trip to Derby County. The Rams thwarted Leeds chances of promotion last year with a 4-3 aggregate win in the play-offs. Leeds were strong favourites to overcome Frank Lampard’s Derby but succumbed to an 85th minute sucker-punch goal.

Furthermore, Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road earlier in the season by Derby. The Whites looked set to take all three points before an injury time equaliser from Scotland International Chris Martin meant the teams took share of the spoils.

Revenge will be in the minds of all Leeds fans who may have the chance to win the Championship at their rivals’ ground.
